Salary Grade(s): 8/9Hours of Work: M-F, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

PURPOSE
The Human Resources (HR) Specialist will assist in the administration and coordination of general day-to-day activities with primary focus on staffing and benefits administration.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports To: Human Resources Director
Supervises: None
Liaison To: Employees


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Assist with the full-cycle recruitment process from requisition request to new employee hire date
  • Update employee records with new hire information and/or changes in employment status
  • Maintain approved job descriptions
  • T&H primary point of contact for health, retirement and life insurance inquires
  • Process applicant & employee inquiries and respond timely
  • Assist with open enrollment process
  • Assist with benefits and/or job fairs

  • Other duties as assigned

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Maintain current knowledge of employee benefits options
  • Remain current on applicable laws
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workload
  • Ability to organize, plan, and maintain confidential records
  • Ability to search, select, compile, and summarize data and information
  • Ability to compare data for completeness, identify any discrepancies or inaccuracies, and make the necessary corrections


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
  • Associate Degree
  • 2 years related experience
Substitution for Associate Degree
  • 4 years HR experience


UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS
The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs. Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
