Description of Job

This position independently performs a range of tasks related to work involved in the fabrication, assembly, installation, maintenance and repair of gas, steam, air, refrigeration, or plumbing fixtures, equipment, pipes, fittings, and controls.

A summary of the duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems (HVAC) Operations - Operate and control primary and secondary multi-story buildings' heating, cooling, and ventilation systems by monitoring and adjusting existing manual, pneumatic, electronic, electric and computerized control systems. Provide and control heat and cooling to state buildings by the installation, operation, preventative maintenance and repair of primary and secondary heating and cooling systems.
Building Automation Computer System - Operation of computer and computerized building automation systems to assure a higher state of control of the primary and secondary hearing, cooling and ventilation systems.
Chemical Systems Management - Prevent and control the build up of scale, corrosion and fouling in the systems and to promote energy savings, efficient operation and longer life of primary and secondary heating and cooling systems.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education and Experience:

At least three years of experience in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems (HVAC) Operations OR appropriate education or successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Conditions of Employment:

  • A pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process.
  • Travel as needed
  • Shift Work: Must be able to work 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift

The exceptional candidate will possess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following preferred qualifications:

  • Previous State Service related to the work assigned to the position
  • Current backflow testing certification.
  • Experience with steam heating piping systems.
  • Experience with heat pumps
  • Experience with chillers
