This position is responsible for supporting the Global Trade Compliance needs of Vertex Aerospace, including but not limited to relationship building with internal customers and suppliers and acting as a Brand Ambassador for Global Trade Compliance.

The ideal candidate will ensure strict compliance with United States laws and regulations relating to Global Trade Compliance, including ITAR, EAR, OFAC, and Customs/Traffic. This position will be expected to understand operational compliance in global trade, monitor federal regulations, have interpersonal skills to interact with colleagues, customers, and the public, and be adaptable to changing administrations and procedures. The responsibilities of this position may evolve over time, and other functions may be assigned as necessary. It is important that the applicant is flexible, can multitask, and is a motivated self-starter.

Key Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and manage ITAR and EAR license applications and Technical Assistant Agreements (TAAs).
  • Competently utilize and understand ITAR Exemptions and EAR Exceptions.
  • Manage and explain license and TAA provisos and conditions to all stakeholders to ensure compliance.
  • Work closely with the Legal Department/General Counsel, Contract Administration, Human Resources and Security to ensure strict compliance with U.S. global trade laws and regulations.
  • Update Global Trade Compliance, Legal, Contracts, Human Resources, and Security on global trade regulatory changes that will impact Vertex's current and future contracts.
  • Assist with Global Trade Compliance annual training sessions
  • Maintain Vertex’s Import/Export license management and tracking system that is capable of tracking licensing time, reporting on pending cases, and advising interested parties of pending expirations.
  • Maintain export recordkeeping within the requirements of the ITAR and EAR.
  • Verify the export classification and Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) Code of commodities, and work closely with procurement, and inventory data control to further the proper classification of commodities, technology, and software.
  • Develop, document, and maintain company policies as required to ensure Vertex’s compliance with federal laws and regulations.
  • Support or lead investigations of potential or actual violations, and draft Voluntary Self-Disclosures, if necessary.
  • Review program needs to ensure that license requirements maintain total support for the program's mission and objectives.
  • Review current and future orders against proscribed countries, entities, and individuals and perform Restricted Party Screening.
  • Act as company liaison for government customer service, audits, and evaluations.
  • Provide guidance to subordinate employees and peers when appropriate, collaborating and cooperating with other members of the management team.
  • Exhibit positive courteous behavior with customers, businesses, and coworkers.
  • Assist coworkers and those in other departments to successfully perform job tasks and functions when necessary.
  • Follow all safety procedures and practices as established by the Company and regulatory bodies.
  • This job may require up to 50% travel.

Professional Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Business Administration/Management or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience in work directly related to Government Contracting and Import/Export Regulations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:

  • Proficiency in the English language and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to read and interpret laws, regulations, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong public speaking skills and comfort addressing groups of customers or employees in training, demonstrations, and conferences.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and anticipate a variety of variables in situations.
  • Familiarity in responding to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Comfortable presenting information to top management, public groups, and/or the board of directors.
  • Skilled in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and analyze.
  • Familiar with using discretion, initiative, judgment, and independent decision-making.
  • Able to act as a leader and spokesperson for the Global Trade Compliance department among other international customers and functional stakeholders.
  • Skilled in multitasking and handling stressful and fast-paced situations.
  • Ready to travel worldwide with limited notice
  • Able to obtain a security clearance, a passport, and/or visa.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, employees are frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms. Employees occasionally must stand, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employees may need to lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
