Position Title: Information Security Policy Analyst

As an Information Security Policy Analyst on our team, you'll work with VA to discover and mitigate cybersecurity risks, support responses to requests for information on cyber best practices, and support the application of information system security practices to ensure the appropriate information security posture is maintained within VA research projects. You will support the development of new policies or addenda to existing research policies that apply minimal appropriate security mitigations in support of research mission objectives. You will assist in developing policy guidance to assist research facilities staff who may not have security expertise. You'll work with your client to translate security concepts into actionable implementable solution recommendations to help the client provide informed security guidance. You'll support a team conducting information security reviews in accordance with VA Research guidance and directives to help the client ensure that research information systems, applications, research scientific computing devices, and software used in research meet VA and NIST standards. Join us as we secure and protect veterans' sensitive data, the VA's cyber ecosystem, and our nation's cyber infrastructure. This position is open to remote delivery anywhere within the U.S., to include the District of Columbia.

Must Have:

  • 3+ years of experience with policy development utilizing NIST special publications, specifically RMFand NIST security controls (SP 800-37, 800-53)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Experience in applying information security and assurance principles
  • Ability to provide a security policy-driven approach for various modalities (devices, technologies, platforms) of data storage and transmission
  • Ability to review and reply to cybersecurity guidance requests from research partners using current VA Handbooks, Directives, and NIST guidance within a standardized timeframe
  • Ability to communicate with key stakeholders, process owners, and customers to manage expectations, eliminate gaps, and ensure success
  • Ability to assist in the performance of information security reviews in accordance with FISMA reporting
  • Ability to assist in performing risk analysis and vulnerability assessments and document/track work efforts daily
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Electronics Engineering, or engineering or technical discipline is required and 5 years of professional experience or a total of 13 years of relevant experience in lieu of education.

Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of VHA Research and Development Policies, Handbook 1200, VA 6500 Handbooks and Directives, data security and governance, and/or HIPAA
  • Experience with information security considerations specific to medical research environments
  • Excellent customer service and organization skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work flexibly in a very fast-paced environment

Salary: $52.00 - $56.00 per hour
