Camp Kingswood, celebrating our 110th summer, is a co-ed overnight waterfront camp in Bridgton, Maine. We're looking for a few last awesome people to join our summer team.
In addition to swimming, sailing, and water sports, Kingswood has a paddle sports program, and is seeking a canoe instructor to deliver activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers' ages and abilities.
Responsibilities (a more detailed job description will be part of the interview process):
- Assist the Head of Waterfront in developing and implementing canoe programs that are engaging, safe, and aligned with camp goals and values.
- Supervise and instruct campers in canoeing electives, including paddling techniques, safety procedures, and basic maintenance.
- Ensure proper safety protocols are followed during canoeing activities, including proper use of equipment, supervision of campers, and adherence to boating regulations.
- Provide support and guidance to campers during canoeing activities, offering feedback and instruction to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Assist with scheduling and staffing for canoeing activities, ensuring proper coverage and staffing levels at all times.
- Assist with managing and maintaining canoe equipment, including boats, paddles, life jackets, and other related gear.
- Fulfill responsibilities as a cabin counselor during non-program times, including evening programs, wake up and bedtime, meals, and on-duty rotations, to ensure the well-being and safety of your cabin.
- Assist with other waterfront activities and responsibilities as needed, such as lifeguarding, supervision, and emergency response.
- Other duties as assigned
Relationships
The Canoe Instructor will be supervised by the Waterfront Director. You will have direct relationships with other counseling staff, and serve as a counselor with a camper group when not on duty at the waterfront.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in canoeing and instructing
- Desire and ability to work with children outdoors and in the water
- Ability to communicate and work with groups participating, and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff
- Ability to observe campers' behaviors, assess appropriateness, and redirect when needed.

Compensation:
$2,000-3,000 for a full season, estimated (plus room and board) based on experience
OR
$3,000-4,000 for a full season for a supervisory/Head of Canoe position
