Position Overview
The Internal Security Investigator I position within the Illinois State Police, Regulatory Services Bureau, Cannabis Control Unit under general supervision of the Cannabis Control Office Coordinator, performs inspections of Illinoi\ cannabis entities; performs responsible research and investigative law enforcement work as a member of the Illinois State Police regarding enforcement of state laws and rules relating to the state cannabis industry; assists higher level investigators and participates in investigations involving diversion, financial exploitation and other crimes perpetrated against the Medical Cannabis Patient Program Act, Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act, and the Cannabis Control Act by providing routine documentary evidence for use in prosecutable or rule violation actions. Maintains investigative and regulatory records and files and ensures security of such; prepares routine investigative reports. Testifies in courts of law and administrative hearings. Liaisons with other entities. Travels across the state, including some over nights, utilizing a state-owned vehicle, in the performance of these duties.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs responsible research and investigative law enforcement work as a member of the Illinois State Police regarding enforcement of state laws and rules relating to the state cannabis industry.
- Assists higher level investigators and participates in investigations involving diversion, financial exploitation and other crimes perpetrated against the Medical Cannabis Patient Program Act, Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act, and the Cannabis Control Act by providing routine documentary evidence for use in prosecutable or rule violation actions, including compiling and gathering relevant data; applies modem technical investigative law enforcement techniques and databases.
- Operates general office equipment, a personal computer, various computer software programs, and a state- owned vehicle to complete the duties described above and below. Operates and works extensively in BioTrack.
- Travels across the state, including some over nights, in the performance of these duties.
- Prepares routine investigative reports on activities and investigations conducted.
- Testifies in courts of law or administrative hearings regarding evidence obtained through officialinvestigations.
- Travels in the performance of these duties.

- Responsible for completing annual ISP required training.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years college, with coursework in law, government, liberal arts, history or business or public administration, plus three (3) years of
experience in law enforcement investigatory work or related field; or Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with major coursework in law, government, liberal arts, history or business or public administration, plus one (1) year professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work or a related field; or Requires completion of the F.B.I. National Academy or comparable law enforcement schooling.
Preferred Qualifications
1. One (1) year experience using modern law enforcement investigatory techniques and concepts.
2. One (1) year experience working with the functions and interrelationships of state agencies.
3. One (1) year experience using Illinois State statutes, rules and regulations.
4. One (1) year experience recognizing and gathering appropriate statements, exhibits and materials acceptable for use in prosecution of cases or disciplinary action.
5. One (1) year experience maintaining security during investigatory activities.
6. One (1) year experience preparing reports for referral to a prosecuting agency or regulatory agency.
7. One (1) year experience familiarity with the Illinois Medical Cannabis Patient Program, Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act, and the Cannabis Control Act.
8. One (1) year experience communicating with a wide range of individual

Conditions of Employment
1. Requires ability to pass a background check, drug test and fingerprinting.
2. Must have valid driver’s license and available to travel.
