Summary:
This position develops and manages interpreter education programs for both providers and staff. In addition, the position serves as a resource for professional development and continuing education for the Department of Interpreter Services. This person is also responsible for the development and administration of bilingual assessments and maintains a record of qualified bilingual and Interpreter staff. Maintains and tracks key departmental productivity metrics and supplies reports to management on an ongoing basis. Supports management with the development and implementation of new services, language delivery solutions, and expansion programs. Responsible for the recruitment and on boarding of all new hires.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and manages education programs for interpreters and bilingual staff interested in Interpreter Services. Establishes certification/recertification programs for new and existing interpreters. Manages education program for interpreters to achieve national Interpreter Certification.
- Identifies, assesses, and trains new interpreters and monitors quality of interpreter staff. Implements assessment program for new interpreters. Develops and implements regular testing to qualify interpreters and bilingual staff throughout the organization. Provides assessment on an ongoing basis. Test interpreters on a regular basis and ascertains the need for additional training. Establishes certification/recertification programs for new and existing interpreters as well as bilingual staff throughout the organization. Expands program to include additional languages beyond Spanish. Maintains database of certified interpreters.
- Provides education and training to departments to teach best practices when working with an interpreter as well as promote cultural sensitivity and ethical responses. Functions as a resource to clinical and administrative departments requiring information about cultural practices.
- Serves as a resource regarding regulatory issues as related to interpreter services. Maintains familiarity with regulatory issues regarding interpreter services. Educates departments about Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. Serves as a resource to answer questions and provides information as needed.
- Helps distribute, maintain, and troubleshoot telephone and video interpreter devices.
Other Information
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- No licensure or certification required.
- If a Bachelor's, requires two (2) years of interpreting experience.
- If an Associate's, requires six (6) years of experience.
- If a high school diploma, requires ten (10) years of experience.
- Must demonstrate written and verbal fluency in both Spanish and English. Must possess extensive knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
