Position Summary:The Family Intervention Specialist (FIS) functions as substance abuse treatment system experts and representatives to child welfare. FIS provide adult substance abuse outreach, screening, intervention, and case management. FIS do not function as the primary treatment counselor. Their role is to serve as a consultant to, and coordinator with, child welfare and a motivator/supporter for families. FIS may be co-located with protective investigation workers, and shall maintain close contact with protective investigators and other child welfare workers. FIS maintain caseloads of up to 35 families. This position functions as a consultant and coordinator with protective service providers and the primary therapist. The Family Intervention Specialist provides resources, education, and motivational counseling to the client to promote family safety, prevent consequences of substance abuse on families under protective supervision or at risk of being under protective supervision by reducing drug and alcohol abuse, support parents/caregivers in completing case plans for permanency and reunification and recovery. This position often requires community-based services and a flexible schedule that will allow for work outside of normal business hours.
Minimum Qualifications:Education:Bachelor's degree required (Masters degree preferred) from an accredited university with major course work in the areas of psychology, sociology, social work, health education, criminal justice or a related human services field.
Experience:One year of experience working with substance abuse required. Experience with both substances abuse and child abuse/neglect is preferred.
Driver Requirement:Must have a current Florida Driver's License with a clean driving record while meeting company insurance requirements.In order to qualify as a Center Driver, the candidate must at least 21 years of age and have an active Florida Driver's license. Motor Vehicle Record will be reviewed for eligibility. No more than 3 moving violations and/or accidents within the past 3 years and no major violations during the past 5 years. Drivers over 65 years old must provide a current doctor's note stating they have no driving limitations.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:· Take referrals from protective investigations or protective services workers and initiate contact efforts within three working days of receiving a completed referral.· Provide an initial face to face screening within ten working days of receiving a completed referral.· Provide an assessment, preferably at the same time as the screening, preferably in the home or community setting.· Based on this assessment, develop a comprehensive service plan for the client/family that includes family safety and linkage with assessment and treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring mental health issues.· Motivate and support the family and assist in removing barriers to successful substance abuse treatment outcomes.· Track and report on the progress of individuals referred.· Provide information and recommendations for development and case management of the joint family service plan.· Work with the child welfare case worker to ensure compatibility between the substance abuse treatment goals and child welfare's plans and interventions for the family.· Serve as an advocate for the client/family with a wide variety of community agencies and Center programs.· May appear in dependency court in response to subpoena or at the request of the client.· Prepare and maintain client records and insures quality of documentation of medical records.· Record every activity engaged on behalf of a client on a daily basis via Progress Notes.· Responsible for meeting yearly productivity and revenue goals.· Researches, develops and maintains a comprehensive list of community resources that includes addresses, phone numbers, and names of contacts for each resource.· Maintain contact with treatment and family safety workers at least once a month.· Once disposition on the case is final (usually within six to fifteen months of initial referral), whether it is re-unification or termination of parental rights, the client may remain in aftercare status for up to three months, if determined necessary. The F.I.S. will continue to monitor progress and provide support during that time, and upon completion of that period will discharge the client from the F.I.S. program.· Performs other duties as required to meet program and departmental goals and objectives.
