POSITION DESCRIPTION

CNPPID has openings for ISS positions based out of Holdrege and Bertrand, Nebraska. The primary job function is to deliver irrigation water to farmers beginning approximately June 1st through September 1st on an assigned irrigation canal lateral. The ISS is responsible for the operations of the assigned canal lateral during the irrigation delivery season. During the delivery season, the position requires daily coordination of irrigation activities along with the adjustments of control structure gates to ensure irrigation deliveries to the field. The ISS routinely conducts and reports water measurements according to procedures for operation of the assigned lateral. An agricultural background and the ability to communicate with farmers is an important part of this position. During the non-irrigation season, the ISS supports canal maintenance and construction along the assigned lateral and the entire irrigation canal system. The ISS will have support and training on the canal lateral assigned.

The majority of the work is outdoor with the remaining 20 to 30 percent consisting of inside shop work. Agricultural background, welding experience, machinery operations and mechanics is a plus to the position. CNPPID offers excellent benefits.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High school degree or equivalent education
• Maintain a valid Nebraska driver’s license

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Operate and maintain equipment and structures in the patrol area such as wells, gate lifts, stop logs, etc.
• Take water measurements and keep records of water delivered
• Perform maintenance work such as truck driving, mowing, carpentry, concrete repairs, painting, etc. as required during the non-irrigation season
• Communicate with landowners, water users and the general public on a regular basis
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Natural work hazards associated with working around water, equipment, excavations and field construction
• Occasional unusual working hours primarily due to emergencies
• Mild work stress associated with time pressures, emergency situations, and/or changes in work priorities
• Available on an infrequent basis for emergency call-outs
• Strong physical, emotional, and mental stamina required to work long hours under harsh working conditions

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.13 - $26.49 per hour
