For Specialty Films North America, this position is responsible for supporting the operation of an optical laboratory within the holographic light guiding application development group. The position will also support the Specialty Films application laboratory in Pittsburgh (thermoforming, etc).

The position will perform application development support, customer technical support, and documentation for both labs while assisting in lab maintenance and upkeep. The incumbent in this role is a technical specialist that has an evolving depth of knowledge of Covestro products, technologies, films, and customer products and processes.

Major Tasks:

• Create and / or measure samples, develop and implement measurement methods to support application development in customer projects, product development in R&D, etc.
• Work with/operate optical test equipment, including power meters, photodiodes, detectors, interferometers, wavefront sensors, spectrometers, and beam profilers.
• Work with specialty films application equipment, such as thermoforming, etc.
• Analyze data and effectively communicate results through technical reports and presentations to supervisor and team members.
• Participate in the communication of information to internal and external customers and clients as necessary
• Extend and apply specialized expertise, also by exchange with internal and external partners, to support business development
• Support holography and specialty films application development projects and programs in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
• Support the upkeep, maintenance, and improvement (where possible) of equipment in the Pittsburgh holography and specialty films application laboratories
• Documentation of SOPs, experimental set-up and results, and required responses to customer and regulatory inquiries
• Maintain appropriate logs/notebooks and other records including, computer documents
• Understand and follow EHS, SOPs and Responsible Care rules, regulations and guidelines maintaining a safe work Environment
• Capable of managing multiple tasks, working effectively with more, than one technical supervisor, interfacing with other functions such as, manufacturing and research personnel, interfacing directly with, customers if needed, and providing timely results to assure the quality, of products shipped to customers
• Plans and works on short-term individual assignments and contributes to team efforts
• Makes suggestions, proposals, or modifications to existing methods in collaboration with supervisor or team lead
• Begin to develop an understanding of how multiple techniques can be utilized to address problem solving efforts, including techniques that may be outside the scope of traditional/assigned work.
