The Role Landscape ProfessionalThe Molak Corporation is looking for an experienced landscape/hardscape professional who enjoys getting their hands dirty to oversee all exterior property maintenance, preservation and beautification activities. The position will be based at our Gruene, Texas headquarters and will report directly to the COO. This position is a highly hands-on role overseeing the landscape team in the overall care and keeping of the external grounds of all Molak Corporation properties, primarily the Gruene, Texas landscape and hardscape areas. This includes managing all seasonal and foundational bedding and landscape plantings, changeouts, trees, walkways, pathways, fencing, parking areas, curbs and lawns, materials and equipment maintenance, coordinating and managing vendors, planning and record keeping, participating in event planning and related support, and working collaboratively with the facilities maintenance team where responsibility for facilities overlaps with the external property management objectives.
What you will do
  • Oversee the planting and management of all seasonal planting beds, barrels, lawns, trees, walkways, curbing, fencing, and pavements ensuring a highly appealing aesthetic, ease of ingress/egress, safety and reliability.
  • Supervise the landscape maintenance team in the care and keeping of all flowering and seasonal plantings, trees, lawns, parking areas, walkways, pathways and fencing. Actively participate as a hands on team member in the completion of the department’s objectives.
  • Responsible for replacing and maintaining flowers, grass, shrubs, and bushes as needed to maintain visual appeal, applying fertilizer to ground and plants when needed, managing tree limbs that are posing a danger and safety issues, removing weeds, maintaining and renewing mulch in beds and gravel drives, walkways and pathways, monitoring and replacing pavers as needed for safe walkways.
  • Utilize organic methods to remediate and control weeds, control pest infestations, fertilize plants, lawns and trees, and clean hardscape areas.
  • Prepare the external facilities and landscaping for seasonal temperature swings to include adjusting plant and tree watering, pruning and protection schedules, assessing drainage and erosion control, and planning for and responding to major weather events accordingly.
  • Coordinate and manage external vendor contractors for assistance with various landscape and hardscape maintenance projects including landscape crews for seasonal change out and planting projects, tree trimming, plumbers, electricians, public utilities, etc.
  • Monitor all pathways, fencing and edging for needed material change outs such as mulch, crushed granite, pavestones, pavement and fence posts, as a result of high traffic wear or erosion issues, as well as edging and fencing conditions. Make recommendations for material changes as needed.
  • Maintain or oversee the maintenance of landscape and hardscape equipment including mowers, edgers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, chain saws, pole saws, hand tools, ground lighting, irrigation systems, etc.
  • Document and maintain detailed records of all landscape and hardscape schematics, budgets and expenses including irrigation system mapping, seasonal planting varietals, schedules and performance, walkways, fencing, materials, etc.
  • Participate in planning and preparing the external facilities for high traffic seasons, weekends and special events to ensure curb appeal, walkability, usability and safety.
  • Work collaboratively with the facilities maintenance team on external property maintenance support such as lighting, external building repairs and other repairs or initiatives where the team’s responsibilities may overlap.
  • Other responsibilities as needed to achieve all objectives and expectations of the landscaping team.

Physical Job Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Must be an early riser, physically mobile and capable of standing, walking, bending, squatting, reaching, kneeling, lifting - regularly
  • Requires good vision - with or without correction, shoveling, sweeping, equipment handling - manual, electric and gasoline powered, driving
  • Must be able to commute from location to location as needed, sometime quickly with little notice
  • Continuous exposure to external elements - extreme heat and cold conditions, as well as mist, rain and occasionally icy conditions
