As the Large Loss Claims Specialist, you will be responsible for evaluating and handling the most complex and high exposure insurance claims and litigation management duties within AXA XL's Commercial E&O Professional division for AXA XL, consisting of, but not limited to Lawyers Professional Liability, Accountants Professional Liability and Miscellaneous Professional Liability claims.

The Large Loss Claims Specialist will work closely with the Manager and fellow claim handlers to drive Commercial E&O Professional files to resolution and interact and collaborate frequently with Practice Leaders and the Underwriting team. You will also help to achieve the best possible outcomes for AXA XL and its clients by resolving and settling claims proactively and efficiently.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Proactively managing assigned Commercial E&O claims while setting and implementing the case strategy under the direction of the Practice Leaders and Claims management. Ensuring all relevant documentation is present in the file and Claim Handler Guidelines and protocols are followed. Utilizing strong technical skills to handle complex and challenging claims within authority level.
  • As claim file owner, collaborating with and presenting to Claims Manager and Practice Leaders on high exposure and high complexity losses to achieve optimum file outcome for the client and AXA XL. Effectively managing costs and determining if / when to engage external vendors, consistent with AXA XL litigation management best practices, and establishing strategic plan with vendors, timely identify Large Losses and ensure all steps are taken to achieve the best outcome for the client and AXA XL.
  • Managing overall claim expenses through thoughtful expense management and application of claims best practices.
  • Partnering with internal and external counsel in setting and pursuing effective and cost-efficient litigation strategies for complex claims in litigation. Working with Claims management and Claims Legal to identify and select appropriate counsel. Proactively managing litigation strategy on the unit’s largest / complex claims.
  • Participating in the Quality review process.
  • Seeking to identify new and improved processes. Embracing short and long-term improvement initiatives, and actively participating to understand and embed any new initiatives.
  • Assisting Underwriters with policy review and drafting initiatives, participating in external marketing and business development activities. Sharing lessons learned and other identified trends to improve risk assessment and underwriting process.
  • Coordinating and managing communication with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., underwriting, brokers, reinsurers, external vendors, etc.) to ensure the highest level of customer service.
  • Producing internal reporting in support of best practice and reserving guidelines. Following the AXA XL Claim Alert process
  • Monitoring and reporting on emerging liability and coverage trends.
  • Coaching less experienced colleagues as opportunities arise and be a role model in best practices.
  • You will report to the Claim Manager.

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required, JD strongly preferred.
  • Experience: Preferred minimum of 5 years of Professional Liability claim-handling experience; working knowledge of applicable regulations; extensive experience overseeing, negotiating and resolving high exposure and complex claims. Insurance adjuster licenses required or will obtain immediately upon starting.
  • Analytic Skills: Possesses strong analytical skills and sound judgment.
  • Leadership: Role model by setting a high bar for performance, engagement and commitment. Ability to coach, develop, set expectations, evaluate and hold people accountable for delivering goals. Takes initiative and has the ability to lead independently.
  • Strong communication: Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration, presentation and influencing skills. Able to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of sophistication. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and efficiently juggle numerous concurrent responsibilities.
  • Collaborative approach: Develop and maintain productive working relationships with all colleagues, including insureds, brokers, claim handlers, underwriters and legal counsel. Provide guidance and seek input from others as needed to achieve the best result possible. Capable of working and collaborating with a virtual team.
  • Results Oriented: Approach tasks proactively and anticipate needs. Think quickly and prioritize multiple work streams without sacrificing work performance and quality.

The base salary range for this position is (92,500 - 182,000). Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
