Opportunity for a Continuous Improvement Leader to directly support Altra’s efforts to drive a culture of continuous improvement. Internally, this role is referred to as an Altra Business System Leader (ABSL) and will be responsible for managing kaizen events and other improvement activities as determined by Policy Deployment, Model Value Stream, and Daily Management. The ABSL will also take a leading role in developing the organization’s breadth and depth in ABS tools with a focus on building problem-solving capability. This leader will also manage key projects involving cross-functional teams to support strategic initiatives and key development programs.

This is an individual contributor role and is located onsite in West Chester, PA.


What You’ll Do

  • Partner with leaders in determining, prioritizing and executing continuous improvement projects.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate local training in lean tools to deepen organization’s understanding and capability.
  • Act as change agent through direct involvement with the process and challenging existing approaches and performance.
  • Support operational transition to one piece flow by assisting leaders with value stream planning, development, and execution.
  • Oversee the success of the kaizen events, including:
    • Working with the kaizen leader in planning and establishing prework requirements.
    • Event facilitation including training and coaching during the event.
    • Generation of clear action plans and results obtained.
    • Advanced planning of events in line with key business objectives.
  • Provide direct support for Team Leader Development Program and other leadership development efforts.
  • Assist other Altra businesses and Corporate ABS Team in the development and implementation of ABS tools and processes.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in business, engineering, or operations; will consider others bachelor’s degrees with an additional 4 years of relevant experience.
  • 4+ years of related experience in manufacturing, operations, continuous improvement, or other related experience.
  • Knowledge of a variety of operational excellence competencies including not limited to: Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma, Toyota Production System Tools: Visual Management, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, Policy Deployment, One-piece Flow, 5S, Kaizen, SMED, Kanban, Poke Yoke, Target Costing, Six Sigma, FMS and TPM.
  • Working experience with lean, ABS or other form of Toyota Production System.
