Library Shelver Job at City of Westminster, CO
POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION
The Library Shelver position is responsible for routine library work, concerning primarily the sorting, shelving of library materials, and performing other tasks to keep the collections in order. We are currently hiring for a part-time, (20 hours per week), benefited position. Hours may vary including morning, day, evening and weekend day shifts. The anticipated schedule for this position is: Tuesday: 3:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.; Friday: 12:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.; Saturday: 12:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.; and Sunday: 12:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The City of Westminster offers a bonus of up to $1,500 per year depending on the employee's fluency in Spanish, Hmong, and/or Laotian.

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Tasks
1. Shelves materials according to classification codes or files them in other designated storage areas
2. Sorts books, publications, and other items by general type prior to shelving them
3. Straightens library shelves, organizes newspapers, and helps with library closing procedures
4. Locates specific materials, and utilizes computerized data equipment to enter and/or retrieve a variety of information, as requested, to determine the status of library materials
5. Checks the condition of materials for repair
6. Reads shelves for correct location of materials; re-shelves out-of-order materials; and shifts and straightens materials on shelves
7. Maintains regular and punctual attendance
Other Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assists in the general housekeeping chores of the library
2. Assists occasionally at the check-in station, including emptying book drop bins and checking in library materials
3. Follows established practices and procedures and is subject to close supervision
4. Works with volunteers, answering questions as needed
5. Performs a variety of routine tasks as assigned and other related work as requested
6. Assists library patrons having simple questions while out in the stacks

Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications
Required
:
- Graduation from high school or GED, or currently enrolled in high school working towards a high school diploma or GED
- Demonstrated ability to perform essential job functions
- Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age
Preferred
:
- General knowledge of arithmetic, numbers, and the alphabet
- General knowledge of standard office and clerical practices
- Working knowledge of policies, procedures, and terminology used within the library
- Working knowledge of classification systems used by the library
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
Physical Requirements
Work performed is physical in nature and involves sufficient physical strength and stamina to:
- Occasionally sit and stand in one area to perform customer service, book check-out and check-in; constantly standing and walking throughout a multi-level public library facility
- Frequent crouching, squatting, bending, and twisting to shelve books from floor level to above head; frequent climbing and balancing to use step stools, ladders, and climb stairs
- Constant light grasp to prepare returned and new material/books for checkout and patron use, and constant reaching at waist level to return material to proper shelves; frequent firm grasp, pinching/fine motor to prepare material/books, and reaching overhead to stock books
- Constant near acuity to read computer screens, and book and shelving labels; frequent hearing to communicate with pubic, staff, and vendors
- Frequent lifting of up to forty (40) pounds from ground to waist to move returned books to check-in area; frequent lifting of up to twenty (20) pounds from ground to overhead to return books to stacks and stock supplies and materials; occasional carrying of up to forty (40) pounds 200 feet to move books and material; occasional pushing and/or pulling of up to 150 pounds up to 200 feet with cart throughout multi-level public use library
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is constantly performed indoors in a public library setting. This position involves high public contact and mobility through a multilevel public use facility.
Required Materials and Equipment
Telephone, computer terminals, bar code readers, fax, photocopier and microfilm machines, book security system equipment, wireless inventory terminals, cash registers, credit card readers, self check-out machines, book carts, and step stools.
