This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Library Technician 3 position for the Library Experience and Access Department at Oregon State University ( OSU ).
The purpose of this position is to provide support for the Library Experience and Access Department which includes: materials and equipment borrowing, information/references services, and the learning commons (study space, computers, printers, scanners).
The person in this position collaboratively supervises, trains, and assists with 20-40 (7 FTE) student employees providing information, technical, and circulation services at the Valley Library services desks. The person in this position anticipates and responds appropriately to patron needs, recommends services to supervisor and department head to meet those needs. The person in this position performs first and second tier reference services, communicating regularly with library patrons and faculty/staff outside the work unit to provide excellent, equitable customer service for a diverse population of library users.
The LIBRARY TECHNICIAN 3 uses advanced knowledge of library and information procedures, services, and resources to provide expertise and assistance with administrative tasks or library operations. Employees in this class may oversee lower level employees and may supervise students or volunteers.

- Coordinates holistic LEAD student supervision and management with their LEAD manager and the Daytime/Sunday LEAD Student Supervisor for all aspects of the job cycle from recruitment to offboarding.
- Provides close direction, training, and supervision for LEAD student workers.
- Builds and maintains robust training and documentation, in coordination with the Daytime/Sunday LEAD Student Supervisor.
- Use LibApps and Primo Analytics software to help analyze and synthesize trends to inform student staffing and training for reference services.
- Responds to questions and concerns from staff regarding LEAD student workers, and resolves or refers behavioral issues as necessary, in coordination with the Daytime/Sunday LEAD Student Supervisor.
- Stays informed of OSU policies regarding student employment.
40% LEAD SERVICES . ASSISTS WITH THE SMOOTH OPERATION OF
FRONT - LINE LIBRARY SERVICES .
- Provides LEAD services at the desks including circulations services and 1st and 2nd tier reference responses to patron needs, questions, and complaints in multiple formats (in person, phone, email, etc.);
- Uses advanced knowledge of library and information procedures, services, and resources to provide assistance with LEAD operations, interpret and enforce policies, and make exceptions as needed in accordance with LEAD values.
- Resolves non-routine and complex issues referred by other staff and escalates these issues as necessary.
- Troubleshoots library software and applications, including problems with computers and equipment in the Learning Commons and throughout library public service areas.
- Oversees students at the desk. Provides training and orientation to new student workers. Provides ongoing immediate feedback and continued training as needed. Prioritizes and guides projects and assigns and reviews work as needed.
- Is responsible for ensuring the front desk area is clean and maintained, including restocking supplies and inventorying materials.
- Upholds the following values: a commitment to customer service, patron privacy, communication between departments and with coworkers, and safety and security.
LEAD services or tasks unique to this role:
- Works with a high degree of independence during Friday/Saturday evening hours, and is responsible for the closing building on some nights.
- Resolves patron and security issues and contacts public safety as needed during weekend/evening hours with limited assistance from other library staff.

- As a member of LEAD, time will be spent in unit, departmental and library-wide meetings, contributing to discussions and decision-making.
- LEAD staff members are expected to demonstrate professional behavior, model good work habits for others, stay on task, maintain an orderly work area, maintain an accurate Outlook calendar and respond to communication in multiple formats within a reasonable time frame.
- Special Projects include collaborative work in a variety of library departments and units.
Bachelors degree plus two years of current (within 5 years) experience in a Library; OR 4 years of current library experience. AND Advanced proficiency in multiple library specific computer applications, e.g., integrated library systems, database applications, institutional repository; content management systems. Some positions may also require in-depth knowledge of specialty area(s), e.g., original cataloging, complex copy cataloging, serials management, ILL management, government documents, image resources, music.
Additional Required Qualifications- Demonstrated ability to use an integrated Library system.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising or coaching students.
- Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service in a busy environment.
- Experience providing reference services in an academic library in person, via email and chat reference.
- Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Work is performed in an office environment and with or without accommodation, will include working with computers/keyboards, working under fluorescent lighting, and occasionally reshelving books. Regular schedule will include evening and weekend hours. and sole responsibility for closing the building 2 nights per week. Scheduled hours during fall, winter and spring terms are Tuesday – Saturday, 1:30 p.m. -10:30 p.m. Hours change during summer and intersession and occasionally to accommodate staff absences. This position may occasionally work remotely on virtual reference,
training, and documentation, but will spend the majority of time onsite to meet business needs.
This position is deemed essential and the incumbent may be expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergency and other University work curtailments or closures. No This position requires a clear and unambiguous commitment to compliance of all National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations for Division I (FBS) universities. No
training, and documentation, but will spend the majority of time onsite to meet business needs.
