About our Assistance Programs
The dedicated staff at Denver Human Services (DHS) are here to listen and advise, helping people apply for public assistance programs. We can provide information about food assistance and financial assistance, as well as help for veterans and those who need long term care. DHS provides a range of other services, including help with transitional housing, medical assistance, and heating costs.
In this role, you will perform permanently assigned lead work duties over Eligibility Technicians including providing on-the-job training and technical support, monitoring caseloads for accuracy in the application of program rules and regulations, and identifying areas for process improvement in order to support the case team. You will also fill in as needed when the Eligibility Technician Supervisor is absent or unable to assist the team.

Within the first six months of this position, we anticipate that the selected candidate will have attended and successfully completed all program training offered. The Lead Eligibility Technician will provide side-by-side training and support for Eligibility Technicians and work complicated program cases to help the teams meet productivity goals of 95% timeliness and quality goals of 95% accuracy.

Additionally, the Lead Eligibility Technician will encourage, motivate and assist various Eligibility Technicians in accomplishing their processing goals across a wide variety of public assistance programs which will include but are not limited to: TANF, adult financial programs, and food stamps. The Lead Eligibility Technician will be heavily involved in all case reviews with these teams.

The Lead Eligibility Technician:
  • Performs lead work duties which include providing guidance and support to Eligibility Technicians, maintaining a thorough and updated knowledge of all public assistance programs, interpreting and explaining rules and regulations to staff, and providing assistance with managing team workloads
  • Provides on-the-job training, mentors new and established employees, and collaborates with the training unit on course content, materials, and claims review
  • Monitors work activity on caseloads to ensure that cases are clearly and thoroughly documented, reviews and analyzes case records and reports for completeness and accuracy, identifies compliance and production problems, and recommends and implements process improvements
  • Assists Eligibility Technicians with processing and determinations of difficult and/or complex cases and acts as an arbitrator when problems occur between applicants/clients and employees
  • Reviews unit procedures, assists in the development or revision of needed procedures, and troubleshoots system errors within the state computer system
  • Maintains current knowledge of the Colorado Benefits Management System, programs, policies, and community resources and adjusts work processes to ensure accurate provision of benefits
  • Provides work instruction and assists employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments. Assigns and distributes work, reviews work for accuracy and completeness, and returns assignments with recommendations for proper completion
  • Resolves problems encountered during daily operations and determines appropriate solutions
  • Contributes to the development of the performance enhancement plan, documents performance, provides performance feedback, and furnishes information for the formal performance evaluation
  • Responds orally to informal grievances and relays information to the supervisor Documents situations which may be cause for disciplinary action and provides this information to the supervisor

  • Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Experience: Three (3) years of experience determining eligibility for a variety of public assistance programs
  • Education & Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements

Although our full pay range is included above, the budgeted hiring range for this position is $23 - $28.75 per hour.
