QUESTIONS
Performs basic preventive maintenance and minor repairs on a variety of parks equipment for carpentry, electrical, waterways, tree trimming, cement work and plumbing. Works as a team on most preventive maintenance activities and assists other trades workers with repair of equipment. May be on call to work outside of normal hours based on type and nature of work assigned.
Essential functions are fundamental job duties. Additional duties will be assigned by a supervisor.
ELECTRICAL: Performs preventive maintenance on electrical components under supervision. Maintenance may include but is not limited to changing bulbs and batteries on all types of equipment, adjusting clocks, exit lighting, irrigation wiring, transformer replacement, installation of various electrical equipment, etc. and assists other trades workers with more complicated repair work. Performs related work as required. Will require work in a bucket truck at heights up to 80 feet.
WATERWAYS: Performs preventive and corrective maintenance, such as sign replacement, signal light repair, derelict vessel removal, red tide sample collection, removal of debris, basic boat and trailer cleanliness and maintenance, etc. Assists other trades workers with more complicated repair work. Performs related work as required.
PLUMBING/ IRRIGATION: Performs preventive maintenance on plumbing and irrigation systems, checks time clocks, replaces irrigation components, replaces and fixes toilet and sink components, programs and maintains irrigation systems, etc. and assists other trades workers with more complicated repair work. Performs related work as required.
CARPENTRY/ TREE WORK: Performs preventative maintenance, such as replacement of dock components, signage, builds simple structures, etc. Performs tree removal, trimming, disposal, etc. May work in a bucket truck using pole saws, chainsaws or other equipment related to tree removal. Assists other trades workers with more complicated repairs. Performs preventive maintenance on roofs, roof inspections and minor roofing repairs. Performs touch-up painting, minor drywall repairs, hanging pictures, install shelving, repair furniture and door repair work in interior and exterior of buildings and pressure cleans exterior of buildings and sidewalks. Performs related work as required.
GENERAL: Performs record keeping on preventive maintenance activities and maintains records on equipment readings. Performs routine inspections and keeps related logs. Ability to lift, move, push, or pull up to 80 pounds. Performs related work as required.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques used to perform basic preventive maintenance procedures on a wide variety of indoor and outdoor equipment.
- Knowledge of basic electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems.
- Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools and equipment used in general building maintenance.
- Knowledge of operations for boats and safe boating principles.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills.
- Ability to read shop drawings.
- Ability to follows verbal and written instructions and record information on logs and forms.
- Skilled in the use of common tools and shop equipment, including the use of mechanical lift equipment.
- Must be able to consistently demonstrate a positive attitude, courtesy and respect toward other departments, co-workers, management and the general public.
PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to lift, move, push, or pull up to 80 pounds. Ability to use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Ability to engage in heavy manual work, indoors, outdoors, and during inclement weather. Ability to bend, stoop, squat, stand, and walk frequently. Ability to climb step and extension ladders. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate of Equivalency. Minimum of one (1) year of experience in general maintenance of buildings.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
