PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for improving the process to safely produce products that consistently meet customer requirements at the lowest possible cost.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE OC DELMAR FACILITY

  • The Owens Corning Delmar Insulation Plant is a flagship plant within the OC Network that has been in operation for 45 years producing Fiberglas Insulation.
  • The plant operates two production lines 24/7 and employs ~250 individuals.
  • Since 2020, Owens Corning has invested $60MM+ into the Delmar facility specifically to bring in more automated equipment and advanced technologies.
  • The plant has $300MM worth of equipment assets and is the highest volume producer of residential insulation within OC producing more than 360MM lbs annually.
  • Delmar utilizes the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) operating model. Since 2018, the plant has been on a TPM journey with goals to achieve JIPM Level 1 in the coming years.
  • This plant is a strong exporter of talent to higher roles within OC and within the plant team.

Knowing Our Customers

The Manufacturing Engineer will have responsibility for:

  • Being a subject matter expert on the critical product characteristics required to provide our customers with a quality product
  • Developing and implementing procedures and systems to ensure products consistently meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Supporting trials for new and existing products to ensure they meet our customer’s fitness for use


Process Performance

The Manufacturing Engineer will have responsibility for:

  • Support the TPM process through Daily Management and participating on AM area or Pillar Teams as required.
  • Support plant maintenance and operations teams in system and equipment troubleshooting and in technology transfer
  • Provide technical support to all operating and maintenance departments to help trouble shoot and diagnose issues related to PLC and HMI programs
  • Utilize problem solving tools as required to identify root causes and prevent reoccurrence
  • Conduct process audits to review Critical Product Characteristics and Critical Process Variables and implementing sustainable corrective actions for process shifts or upsets
  • Analyze product and process data to optimize performance. Identify and implement process improvements and best practices. Improvements may originate from S&T, ISBMS, or other facilities
  • Works with other members of the control systems design department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology, with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality and improved efficiency.


Leading and Developing Talent

The Manufacturing Engineer will have responsibility for:

  • Educate primary employees in the manufacturing process and process control procedures
  • Development and participation in both formal and informal training programs designed to teach personnel the operating and trouble-shooting techniques for equipment and controls systems
  • Partner with employees to develop and implement Operator Control Plans
  • Partner with AM to develop and implement Operator Based Care plans for equipment to ensure employee understanding and ownership


JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent training, knowledge, and experience
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a manufacturing or technical environment
  • Completion of an engineering related Development Program or similar experience preferred
  • Controls and Automation preferred


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
:

  • Understands and works with basic principles of engineering
  • Understands statistical concepts including trial design, data analysis, control charts, process capability and design of experiments to drive process improvements
  • Understands basic elements of producing fiberglass including raw materials, processes and control systems
  • Ability to communicate with and engage employees at all levels of the organization
  • Working knowledge of the following manufactures process control hardware (Allen Bradley PLC5 and SLC 500, ControlLogix, CompactLogix etc.) for specification of the following
  • Expertise in PLC I/O Modules (Point I/O, Flex I/O), PLC I/O buses (Profibus, Fieldbus, DeviceNet, ControlNet. etc.)
  • Expertise in Sensors and Sensor Software (Level, Pressure, Temperature, Proximity switches, Encoders, pH, vision, position indication, etc.)


Ability to travel 5-10%


The base salary range for this position is $61,000-$79,000 with the potential for up to an additional 25% if the applicant hired has additional related qualifications.
