This position will be focusing primarily on our Energy Systems line of business, which include telecommunications, IT, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), utilities and switchgear, security, emergency lighting and general electronics. Job Purpose
The Manufacturing Project Engineer is responsible for managing the design, timing, and delivery of complex manufacturing processes and equipment required to support new launches or upgrades to existing systems. The Manufacturing Project Engineer (MPE) uses in-depth knowledge of Richmond products, components, and manufacturing processes to manage new production processes from concept to full production. The MPE focusses on capital budget, overall manufacturing costs, and project on-time delivery. The MPE functions as a key member of multi-disciplinary core teams on new processes / product development and represents all industrial, manufacturing, and Engineering facets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following but other duties may be assigned:
- Support manufacturing engineering function to respond to production needs by developing shop drawings.
- Drafts detail drawing or sketch to request parts fabrication by machine, sheet metal or wood shops.
- Reviews blueprints and drawings for correct part design, potential problems and errors and provides possible solutions by substitution or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies.
- Review BoMs in BAAN, SAP and design drawings to confirm accuracy.
- Monitor New Product Introduction (NPI) projects for design details and BoM.
- Monitor cabling layouts and lengths.
- Coordinates activities involved with procuring goods and services such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, and supplies for the organization.
- Coordinate electronic accessory installation and programming (WiiQs, PODs)
- Detail inaccuracies of the Configurator used by Customer Service and Sales.
- Coordinate issues with Customer Service to obtain correct Sales and Production Orders.
- Work closely with the Corp Design Engineering group, Customer Service, SAP Team and plant Accounting.
- Seek competitive bids and create Purchase Orders.
- Communicate effectively and develop strong working relationships with factory associates and outside vendors.
- Manage small to medium capital projects with application of project management methodologies and technical expertise throughout project lifecycle.
- Understand and contribute to key stakeholders’ needs and communicate effectively through project lifecycle.
- Remain current on project management standards and methodologies.
- Participate in cross-functional project teams, act as a resource to resolve technical obstacles.
- Assess the benefits and risks of new equipment and technologies and work with Safety team to mitigate potential safety issues in planning phase of project.
- Evaluate and modify existing plant equipment to ensure it is safe, reliable and efficient.
- Participate in LEAN manufacturing events to reduce costs, improve efficiencies, and assure quality.
- Provide technical assistance to troubleshoot and diagnose design and manufacturing quality issues.
- Conduct feasibility studies on potential production equipment to validate capacity and functionality or to assess existing technologies.
- Develop manufacturing processes and create Work Instruction Packages.
- Complete Manufacturing Readiness Reviews (MRR) on all Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) activities.
- Evaluate manufacturing processes and recommend / implement process improvements.
- Act as manufacturing liaison for engineering team.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- Two (2) years of work-related experience.
- Must be fully functional in both 2-D and 3-D drafting software, with experience on AutoCAD.
- Ability to interpret and comprehend Engineering drawings, Bills of Materials and specifications.
- Knowledge of SAP or other ERP tools.
- Familiarity with the use of specifications, blueprints and Bills of Material.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Language Skills: Strong written and verbal English skills. Ability to clearly communicate both written and orally.
Reasoning Ability: Root cause problem solving.
Computer Skills: Above average knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, integrated operating software systems and AutoCAD.
Other Qualifications: Previous experience in purchasing and procurement helpful.
Travel Required: Infrequent.
