Description of Job

The purpose of this position is to provide direct supervision to any given shift in the Integrated Document Solutions (IDS) Print/Mail Production staff and operations. The position will be required to be flexible in shifts and will typically supervise the last half of the second shift and the first half of the third shift. The anticipated shift for this position is 5:00 PM – 2:00 AM. The position will need to be able to flex to other time periods as business needs dictate. This position will focus on the transactional side of the print and mail operations.

A summary of the
duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Supervision of Manufacturing and Production Staff - This position is the first level Supervisor for the production staff in a 24x7 printing and mail manufacturing operation. Each of three shifts has one designated working Supervisor and at least one of the following: inserter operators, mail sorting operators, bindery and print staff, and metering and package handling staff. This position will provide leadership and mentoring to production staff and work with the Production Manager to assign operators to equipment and provide leadership and mentoring to production staff. The position will train existing and new employees on production equipment and related responsibilities. Performs diagnostic testing and makes adjustments and minor repairs on production equipment. Assembles all monthly production logs and job tickets as needed for reporting and billing. Assists in developing work procedures and guidelines. Monitors progress of all jobs to assure that they are performed in a timely manner and in accordance with production and customer Service Level Agreements. This position contributes to the regular print and mail production schedules based on the knowledge of deadlines, skills possessed by employees, equipment performance, prior production schedules and time required to process work.
  • Equipment Operation and Job Processing - This position is responsible for prioritizing all print and mail jobs for processing on all assigned shifts. The position is also responsible for directing and maintaining a clear direction for production staff in following established production procedures and standards. Position is required to physically back-up production staff in the event of absence and/or step in when workload demands. Assist in coordinating with IDS Account Managers and Customer Service Coordinators, the necessary components for processing of IDS work. Checks the materials for adherence to specifications, and correct quantity. Identify resolutions to problems that arise with the equipment and processing jobs on the equipment.
  • Training and Quality Control - This position will be expected to cross-train employees on how to operate a variety of print and mail production equipment and perform associated tasks. This position is also responsible for monitoring the quality of all the work they and their team process. To ensure that the work is being processed at the highest level of quality, this position must follow the IDS Production Operations quality guidelines and procedures. It is also responsible for making sure fellow staff are following quality guidelines and procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education and Experience:

At least four years of experience in a manufacturing environment operating production equipment which must include formal supervisory experience

The exceptional candidate will possess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following preferred qualifications:

  • Previous State and or Previous In-Plant (in-house) Service related to the work assigned to the position in a formal leadership role
  • Prior experience as a strong leader in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience operating manufacturing equipment that may include both mail and print production equipment.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong Communication skills.
  • Strong technical aptitude
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience with Production printing equipment
  • Experience in an EFI Fiery environment.
  • Experience operating an automated high-speed inserter and metering mail equipment.
  • Detailed and quality oriented.
