Position: Material Handler II

Location: Wausau, WI

Wage: $23.44/hr

Shift: 3rd Shift - 11PM-7AM

Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, material handlers are responsible for the safe and efficient transport of all raw materials and finished goods. They service all metal end equipment, including presses, Rychigers, and scroll shears. Prepares goods for shipment; loads and unloads trailers; and completes appropriate paperwork as required. Performs other duties as needed to insure efficient operation of all equipment.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Transports sheets to scroll shears, and strips and coils to presses. Stages metal at press.
  • Transports flat panel ends and membrane to Rychiger Room.
  • Removes pallets from equipment.
  • Securely wraps and bands finished goods, and applies pallet identification tags.
  • Stacks pallets in finished goods and raw material areas of the plant.
  • Wraps and tags rejected material.
  • Fills compound tanks as required, and at the end of each shift. Transports compound barrels to and from the HAZMAT room.
  • Empties all scrap barrels, dumpsters, and garbage containers.
  • Provides snakewrap, banding, sleeves, cartons, pallets, slug barrels, and other packaging supplies to equipment.
  • Assists operators with strapping.
  • Loads, unloads, and inspects trailers and materials, verifying counts of raw materials and finished goods. Notifies lead shipping clerk or shift supervisor of problems with trailers or loads.
  • Follows FIFO (first in-first out) practices.
  • Tags inbound material per plant procedures.
  • Weighs pallets and calculates total gross weights of outbound shipments.
  • Assists lead shipping clerk and other plant personnel in completion of paperwork (load tally sheets, bills of ladings, receivers, etc.) for inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Performs basic maintenance on fork trucks and completes daily safety checks.
  • Fills propane tanks on fork trucks.
  • Follows Good Manufacturing Practices and performs inspections/audits of incoming and outgoing product.
  • Completes assigned cycle counts and performs physical inventory counts as scheduled.
  • Provides backup/coverage for shipping department employees and other material handlers.
  • Maintains a safe work environment.
  • Assists in keeping the production floor and plant storage areas clear of safety hazards.
  • May be required to shuttle materials between the plant and outside warehouse using the company’s van. This essential function requires the employee to comply with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requirements for a non-CDL driver, including but not limited to periodic medical exams, submission of driving logs, etc.
  • Supports continuous improvement projects and quality initiatives to ensure our products meet or exceed our customers’ expectations.
  • All other duties as may be required.

  • Basic knowledge of shipping/receiving functions and material handling. Good understanding of production operations.
  • Must be able to operate a fork truck. Attends forklift training and refresher classes, and passes periodic Forklift Driver Practical Exams.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate and interact well with other departments and employees.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
  • Ability to work independently.
