Job Purpose
Responsible for ensuring coordination and release of components required to meet production schedules and customer requirements; while developing procedures and systems to optimize, ensure availability, and achieve appropriate inventory levels.
Analyzes output of Materials Requirement Plant (MRP). Purchases goods and services to ensure an adequate supply of material to support the company’s objectives.- Is the Materials Department representative for operations, working with Engineering during the development of new products.
- Ensures the effective use of company funds in the procurement of assigned commodities. Exercises prudence and good judgement in securing the best possible value for the funds expended.
- Maintains a good corporate image by conducting purchasing activities upon a solid foundation of honesty, integrity, and fairness.
- Responsible for acting on order releases action and exception messages from the system.
- Responsible for the analysis of sales order releases with respect to capacity planning and material requirements
- Responsible for the management of inventory levels, schedules and availability of selected item, either manufactured or purchased, to meet production schedules.
- Order floor stock with shelf life material for production
- Receive and review orders against current requirements and work in process using the MRP Reports
- Release Purchase orders for production material, floor stock items and all purchases to support plant operations
- Resolves problems and conflicts with suppliers or internal customers in a timely manner.
- Respond and communicate changes in the production schedules resulting from customer service, engineering changes and materials issues.
- Plan and implementation of plans to reduce inventories, master schedule control and materials cost improvements.
- Work closely with manufacturing to ensure that planning activities facilitate uninterrupted workflow in production.
- Executes the materials requirements plan to ensure a steady flow of material to support manufacturing. Specific duties include analyzing material requirements, developing and implementing procurement strategies; scheduling deliveries; purchase order creation and management, etc.
- Develops a thorough knowledge of commodities assigned. Advise management of competitive situations, alternative supply sources, price increases, trends and supply/demand situations. Keep Production Scheduling informed of lead-time requirements required for commodities assigned and any change in lead-time as they occur.
- Maintains familiarity with quality standards and educates/informs suppliers.
- Maintains courteous, impartial, and objective dealing with suppliers
- Maintains various purchasing files; performs expediting on a regular basis; performs various administrative functions as required; processes defective (Return to Vendor) material in an expeditious manner.
- Perform tasks related to Production activities, including, but not limited to work order administration, inventory management, and expediting of required components.
- Follows environmental and safety regulations and acts in compliance with US laws
- Complies with safety and corporate guidelines on business ethics.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in business related area, Industrial Management, or related field.
- 8-10 years related work experience in a role in Warehousing, Receiving, Inventory Control, Purchasing/Planning, or Materials Management in Tier 1 automotive manufacturing environment
- Thorough knowledge of MRP, inventory control, purchasing procedures and internal controls.
- Ability to represent the company effectively in dealing with suppliers
- Ability to understand and analyze the requirements of the material requirements plan. Ability to convert these requirements into purchase orders to support manufacturing.
- Solid decision-making skills
- Demonstrated experience with widely accepted MRP systems (ManMan) and applications software.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations under stress.
- Working knowledge of various supply chain strategies including, JIT, Kanban with a through understanding of production and inventory control principles.
- Ability to create, track and meet schedules at a multi-task level along with project management skills
- Experience with Automotive JIT systems, FIFO, and pull systems.
- Work overtime and travel as required
- Must have the ability to relocate for future developmental opportunities
