Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Polymer Science or related field of study and 7 years of progressive experience in Materials Science, Polymer Science or any combination thereof in lieu of a Master’s degree or equivalent and 3 years of experience. Hours: Mon -Fri, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Summary of Duties:
Conduct research, analysis, formulation and process studies on rubber (NBR, HNBR and Natural Rubber) and other elastomeric substances, for such purposes as product and process development and application, quantitative and qualitative analysis and failure analysis. Responsible for delivery and supervision of project-based non-metallic research test programs and reports. Develop processes and methods for solution of elastomeric technical problems. Analyze elastomeric compounds to determine process conditions and controls. Conduct development on manufactured products to develop and improve rubber and elastomeric products. Conduct research into composition, structure, properties, compatibilities, and reactions of rubber and elastomeric materials. Assist in review and solution of manufacturing problems related to elastomer production. Prepare standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products and processes. Plan, conduct, track and report elastomer investigations. Support day-to-day activities associated with new elastomer development and testing. Prepare documentation and reports as required. Assist in maintaining internal elastomer Databases and updating as required. Confer with engineers regarding research and prepares technical papers and reports.
20% travel required; mostly domestic, some international. *Hybrid in-office/remote position*

Master’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Polymer Science or related field of study and 3 years of experience in Materials Science, Polymer Science or any combination thereof. 3 years of experience with elastomer failure analysis;- 3 years of experience troubleshooting manufacturing process problems;
- compression, injection and transfer molding of elastomers;
- tool design for elastomer molding;
- mixing (internal and milling), extrusion and calendaring of elastomers;
- process parameters important to molding of elastomers;
- writing and presenting technical instructions and other quality related documents for elastomer molding;
- elastomers to metal bonding;
- working with Design Engineers to ensure parts can be manufactured efficiently;
- Process optimization of elastomer molding (mold time reduction);
- training operators/engineers in elastomer processing; and
- specification, purchase, installation and commissioning of elastomer processing equipment.
Any and all experience may be gained concurrently.
