The elevator operations team under the Construction and Technical Services LOS is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all elevators, escalators and ADA lifts in DCAS owned and managed buildings. This team, in agreement with applicable NYC Codes and industry standards is responsible to conduct regular inspections of its equipment to assure equipment’s safety, prevention and/or clearance of any violations issued by NYC Department of Buildings.
The team also prepares and provides elevators and escalators job specifications and assists project managers with new and ongoing elevator and escalator modernization projects.
Under direct supervision, the Elevator Mechanic Helper will assist in the maintenance and repair of electrically and/or hydraulically powered passenger, freight elevators and/or escalators. The duties and responsibilities of the elevator mechanic’s helpers include, but will not be limited to:
Will repair all electrical/hydraulic elevators and/or escalators and maintain them as follows:
Oil, grease, and lubricate equipment;
Change lights;
Repair and adjust cables, generators, SCR drives, microprocessor controls, and doors.
Will assist with Preventive Maintenance to all elevators, escalator dumbwaiters and handicap lifts.
Will conduct daily visual inspections of equipment, related controls and will report findings to the elevator mechanic.

Minimum Qual Requirements
1. Three years of full-time satisfactory experience acquired within the last ten years in the maintenance, repair and/or installation of passenger or freight elevators; or
2. At least two years of experience as described in “1” above plus at least 600 hours of training in the maintenance, repair and/or installation of passenger or freight elevators acquired in a trade school, technical school, or vocational high school, approved by a state’s Department of Education or comparable agency, to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience; or
3. Satisfactory completion of an approved career ladder training program for Elevator Mechanic’s Helpers sponsored by the New York City Housing Authority.
Driver License Requirement: You must possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York at the time of appointment. If you have moving violations, a license suspension or an accident record, you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
2.
