Job Overview

Serves as the Mechanical Engineer in the Facilities Division with responsibility for the mechanical engineering support to the Redstone Arsenal ISS Contract.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

• Provides support to buildings & structures, roads and grounds, equipment, and utility systems of Redstone Arsenal operations, maintenance repair and construction activities involving requirements for the mechanical engineering expertise.
• Manage designs and orchestrates the planning, design, and phased scheduling of assigned projects.
• Performs mechanical engineering surveys for cost reduction, to improve work methods and increase efficiency.
• Coordinates and provides technical consultation with other engineering functions, electrical, energy, environmental, civil, contracting, users and appropriate managers, supervisors, and maintenance personnel.
• Serves as a mechanical design liaison with the Director of Public Works (DPW), the Army Corps of Engineers (COE), architect and engineer firms (A&Es) and other design agencies providing advisory reviews and recommendations as required.
• Provides technical input to the Annual Work Plan process, such as providing a list of potential projects to be included.
• Provides Mechanical Engineering advisory services and developing criteria for equipment installation, maintenance, repair and alterations/construction job order requests.
• Identifies spare parts requirements for mechanical systems during both the design phase and the operational phase.
• Keeps abreast of emerging technologies for program development. Uses computers/computer software such as information management programs, Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD), project tracking programs to solve engineering problems and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to track and facilitate work. Keeps current on relevant software applications.
• Prepares operating plans in accordance with assigned data requirements of the ISS Contract.
• Provides operational drawings and operating & maintenance procedures to maintenance shops.
• Performs HVAC facility/systems assessments and prepares associated reports and project documentation. Provides design and replacement recommendations for existing and new HVAC systems as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Mandatory Requirements:

• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain required security clearances
• Baccalaureate degree from a 4-year accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering and 5 years operational experience as a Mechanical Engineer.
• Knowledge of a broad range of engineer and construction standards, methods, practices, techniques, material, HVAC controls and equipment to determine compliance with federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and maintain good working relations.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
• Must have valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record pertinent to the position.
• Ability to successfully pass any background checks and / or drug testing required on the contract.
