Major Function
This employee is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the school library media/technology program. Knowledge on standard library practices and procedures, involving printed books and publications and audiovisual equipment and related materials.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains a variety of files and filing systems including addresses and resource information on publishers and suppliers, purchase orders, cards, catalogs, circulation records, etc
- Responsible for the circulation of books, periodicals, magazines, films, cassettes, computer software and other related materials to students and faculty
- Repairs and reinforces books and related instructional materials
- Directs and assists students and faculty in locating books, reference materials, etc. as required
- Provides lead direction to student assistants and volunteers in performing routine library tasks
- Orders films and cassette tapes through Media Services on a scheduled basis for instructional staff; receives, distributes and returns same to film library
- Plan library media/technology program activities that are integrated with other programs of the school
- Provide an on-going evaluation of the library media/technology program and make program modifications as needed
- Recommend budget requirements for an effective library media/technology program
- Contribute to students’ development of skills in reading, viewing, listening, evaluating, and communicating in various formats
- Provide students an opportunity for discovery and exploration of library media/technology resources independent of or beyond the stated curriculum
- Organize and circulate all school library media/technology information services, materials and related equipment for easy accessibility by students and teachers, according to Academies standards
- Maintain up-to-date bibliographic data for school library media/technology materials on the Academies Alexandria library media automation system and other local data bases, as needed
- Provide teacher with information about new materials and recent media/technology developments in their specific instructional area
- Maintain a professional library collection and provide access to education related information databases to assist school educators
- Provide a well-chosen and up-to-date collection of media/technology resources for different levels of maturity, ability, and interests
- Provide students and teachers full accessibility to the library media center throughout the school day with time before and after school as staff permits
- Demonstrate the ability to work with students with varying needs and exceptionalities and provide accommodations for them to access the resources available in the media center.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree
Valid Florida teaching certification in Media or English
Ability to effectively relate to students
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers
