this can be four 8-hour shifts (3 pm – 11 pm = 32 hours) or four 10-hour shifts (2 pm – 12 am = 40 hours).
The Medical Assistant reports to the Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing. The Medical Assistant will administer and facilitate patient care, and works in conjunction with facility Medical Director, and other interdisciplinary personnel. Medical Assistants are responsible for many patient care tasks to ensure that each patient receives the comprehensive and personalized care required.
Job Duties:
- The Medical Assistant monitors vitals and patient behavior and reports back to the nursing and medical staff.
- Assisting in the intake process by helping patients to complete non-assessment based portions of the nursing intake packet.
- The Medical Assistant collects urine samples for the RN, and breathalyzer readings when required.
- The Medical Assistant updated temperature logs.
- The Medical Assistant helps patients with coming to the RN stations for assessments and medications.
- The Medical Assistant performs medical supply inventory.
- The Medical Assistant destroys surplus non-narcotic comfort medications.
- The Medical Assistant completes follow up calls to confirm medication deliveries.
- The Medical Assistant orders chest x-rays when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned within MA scope of practice.
Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including customer service, patience, empathy, and compassion
- Effective communication skills, including active listening, writing, speaking, and reading comprehension.
- Good collaboration and teamwork skills.
- Fast and adaptive problem-solving abilities.
- Keen attention to detail.
- In-depth understanding of organizational patient care policies and protocols.
- Familiarity with symptoms and signs of improvement for detox.
- Comfortable working with specific populations of patients, including patients withdrawing from substances, and patients with psychiatric or personality disorders.
Physical Demands:
Must have reasonable ability to do the following:
- Stand, walk and sit during assigned shifts hours.
- Have the ability to manually handle patient belongings with gloved hands.
- Be able to manually assess a patient as part of a visual skin check during the intake process.
- Reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Speak and have access to the special senses within normal limits (hear, taste, smell, etc.) as it applies to patient care.
- Must be capable of lifting 20 pounds.
