Job Overview
Medical Assistants (MA’s) at Children’s Hospital Colorado are inspirations to patients and their families, and to other members of the medical team! Every day they influence people’s lives with their exceptional skills and compassion for others.
Medical assistants are cross trained to perform administrative and clinical duties.
- Clinical duties can include explaining treatment procedures to patients, instructing patients about medication and special diets, preparing and administering medications, and performing basic lab tests.
- Administrative duties may consist of updating and filing patient medical records, coding and filling out insurance forms and scheduling appointments.
Medical Assistants at CHCO are essential members of the ¿patient-¿centered ¿medical ¿team and directly support patient care by assisting health care providers, collaborating with patient and family in implementing plan of care as directed by Care Team, and promoting patient safety and well-being. They serve as a patient liaison to explain the physician's instructions and educate patients through written instructions and answering questions as directed by provider.
Our Medical Assistants contribute to a positive health care experience for patients and are instrumental in helping patients feel at ease in the hospital, clinics, and physician offices.

Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits
Shift: Four, ten-hour shifts 7a-530p, M-F
Qualifications
- EDUCATION – High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited/certified Medical Assistant program.
- EXPERIENCE – None. MA positions are entry level roles. Candidates with one or more years of experience will receive higher compensation.
- CERTIFICATION(S) - BLS for Healthcare Providers / CPR required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.
- Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment. Conducts quality checks.
- Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment. Reports areas of concern to next care provider.
- Supports patient care delivery by assisting health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic testing; disposing of contaminated supplies; cleaning or preparing for sterilization of medical instruments; administering medications per policy and procedures; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies and other duties within scope.
- Assists in balancing workloads, coordinates and maintains clinic flow by coordinating with providers, and monitoring patient flow.
- Provides phlebotomy.
- Completes lab test follow up and medical record documentation.
- Prepares and completes medical record for visit by recording patient information, treatment, and test results. Assists with patient “MyChart” enrollment.
- Participates in the standardized education of patients through written instructions and answering questions as directed by provider.
- Independently initiates referrals and insurance pre-authorizations.
- Provides general office support including phone and fax management.
- Serves as the preceptor for new staff, including orientation, education, skill validation, tracking, assessment and monitoring progress.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
- Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards.

Salary Information
Hourly Salary Range: $16.40 to $24.60
