    The Department of Laboratory Medicine serves as a regional resource for clinical laboratory services required for patient care, research and educational programs in laboratory medicine.     The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology department has an outstanding opportunity for a MEDICIAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST 2 (FULL-TIME, DAY-SHIFT)

    RESPONSIBILITES
  • Perform and or provide high level support for the performance of moderate to high complexity procedures. Act as a resource to laboratory staff and students. Exercise expertise in development/evaluation/performance of new or specialty procedures. Perform administrative functions and other laboratory work which supports the operation of a CAP/CLIA/GCLP clinical/research/clinical trials laboratory.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and support the hospital in meeting JCAHO, CLIA, and CAP standards.
  • Communicate courteously and clearly with laboratory staff to resolve problems. Promote and contribute to the development of teamwork within the laboratory and between the laboratory and other departments. Establish and maintain a positive attitude toward self, others, and the workplace.
  • Perform, monitor, and/or support clinical virology diagnostic testing
  • Record, evaluate and interpret test results; review and release test results; contact appropriate personnel for tests with unusual or critical findings
  • Optimize procedures and troubleshoot problems that require a comprehensive understanding of moderate to high complexity laboratory testing
  • Perform and troubleshoot new assay development and validate new assays/instrumentation
  • Prepare validation plan and summary report documents
  • Train new employees in experimental procedures, assays, laboratory safety, and other laboratory procedures
  • Write, revise, and submit clinical laboratory test procedures for approval
  • Assist in developing workflows for incoming projects
  • Assist in preparing for annual external audits for laboratory certifications
  • Assure that quality control requirements are met to validate test results, record data and maintain continual quality assurance
  • Act as a resource to other lab personnel in quality control, troubleshooting of instruments and procedures, and laboratory safety
  • Maintain complete, accurate, legible records on worksheets including all results and other documentation, thoroughly documenting any modifications
  • Maintain ASCP or equivalent certification
  • Maintain competency in laboratory procedures and perform MLS 1 duties as required
  • Perform administrative or other duties as assigned

    REQUIREMENTS
  • Accredited Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science OR equivalent education/experience
    AND
  • Current Medical Laboratory Science certification with the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent certifying organization; or certification with specialty organization appropriate to the laboratory division
  • Two years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist 1

    DESIRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience validating FDA-approved and laboratory developed assays (LDAs)
  • Experience with cost-accounting laboratory assays
  • Experience with HIV testing, PCR and serology assays
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
