Job Description
Position Summary:
The Medical Front Desk Specialist (MFDS) will be responsible for the accurate intake and input of clients’ insurance and demographic information. The MFDS will also review accounts to ensure that required pre-authorizations and prior payments are in place prior to clients being seen. The MFDS will perform primary plus secondary insurance eligibility, compare charges on accounts with the procedures coded and collect Copays, deductibles.
The MFDC shall answer the phone and relay messages. Additionally, e-faxes are sent and processed by the MFDS.
The MDS must be willing to report back to work during any emergency, this includes if needed during inclement weather, etc.
The MFDS duties include balancing out the daily receipts, will be responsible for scheduling patients, responding to Medical Records requests, sending referral sources medical records, and processing faxes.
The MFDS will complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
General: Must be able to speak clearly on the phone, display a calm demeanor and be reliable.
Specific: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel, Electronic Medical Records (Nextech preferred), Verification of Benefits (Trizetto preferred), Determination of Co-payments, and deductibles.
As we are a paperless office the applicant must have excellent typing and spelling skills, be detailed oriented, possess advanced computer skills, and be able to perform mathematical percentages.
A positive attitude is required.
Education:
· Minimum of Associate Degree.
Experience:
· 6 months previous Medical Front Desk required.
· 6 months experience with electronic medical records
· Experience using Microsoft Word & Outlook
Licensure/Certification/Registration: If applicable
Special Skills:
· Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with physicians, clinical and office staff personnel required.
· Exemplary core customer service skills strongly required.
· Strong organizational and multitasking skills required.
· Strong PC skills required.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
· Exposure to or knowledge of encoding software and impact of coding and reimbursement assignments required.

Working Conditions
· Stress level high due to multiple demands frequently occurring simultaneously.
· Generally office environment.
· Most work performed while sitting, however, a moderate amount of walking and moving around within a confined area occurs.
· Working hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday.
· We observe 8 holidays per year.
Physical Requirements:
Light-Medium - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; frequently to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear clearly. The employee must exert 15 to 20 pounds of force occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time), and/or 5 to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 5 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to hear to process instructions required. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
