Plays an essential role in the day-to-day field operations for our customers. Including but not limited to: exchange of electrical meters, Exchange of gas modules, exchange of water meters, meter verification and validation. If you have experience in one or more of these meter exchange types this job is for you!

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Essential Job Functions:
  • Follows all procedures outlined in the Field Services Manual to safely exchange electric meters, gas modules, or exchange water meters in assigned routes. Each route is different and production expectations are given by the supervisor
  • Electric meter types exchanged will be 1s, 2s, 2s 320, 12s, 25s, 9s, 16s
  • Identify hazards or unsafe conditions at meter site and report accordingly
  • Wears all PPE during meter exchange and understands the function the PPE plays during normal operations
  • Uses handheld device to collect project specific data points including but not limited to site inspection, address verification, old meter number, old meter reading, quality picture of old meter, quality picture of socket, thermal image and temperature scan of socket, new meter number, new meter module number, quality picture of new meter, socket GPS transformer number, transformer GPS, and comments if needed
  • Along with collecting information using the handheld device the Field Technician may be required to use a paper copy called a route sheet to record all information on a paper for a backup if it is ever needed
  • Responsible for ensuring assigned route is loaded on handheld and all tools needed for the job is located and kept in the work vehicle
  • Will drive a company vehicle appropriately marked for the specific project. Field Technician is responsible to ensure a safety walk around in preformed prior to leaving for his/her route. Field Technician will complete a vehicle inspection as required and follow all vehicle policies and rules of the road
  • Will participate in weekly safety meetings and will sign the sign in sheet provided by the trainer/supervisor
  • Responsible for understanding and following all job specific procedures
  • Responsible for the timely completion of all routes assigned
  • Will have contact with customers on a daily basis and is responsible to follow all outlined customer service policies
  • Responsible for turning in all keys, handhelds, and paper work in as required
  • Returns all old meter inventory to appropriate areas at the end of each working day
  • Will enter all meter inventory prior to leaving the field in accordance with the inventory needed for the specific route being worked

EQUIPMENT:
Examples of Equipment Used on the Job: Electric, gas, water meters; meter reading devices; Communication equipment such as telephone, tablet and computer. Printed materials such as service orders, maps, manuals and computer printouts. Automobile. Hand tools such as a screwdriver, pliers, flashlight, keys, gas detectors, generators, pumps, hand pumps, shovels, lid handles, safety glasses, earplugs, hardhat. Safety vests, safety boots, water key, water pump, steel brush and optional dog spray.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Examples of Required Physical Activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motion.
Physical Characteristics of Work: Requires extensive walking and standing. Medium work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and /or up to 20 pounds o force routinely, and/or up to 10 pounds of force continuously to move objects. Will need to walk up to 20 miles per day in all kinds of weather including rain, sleet, hail, and snow. Must be able to work in all temperatures with daily ranges of -10 up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
Vision Requirements: The minimum standard for use with those whose work deals largely with the use of measurement devises.
Environmental Conditions: The worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, rain, snow extreme heat and/or cold, noise, darkness and poor lighting conditions and isolation. May be periodically exposed to chemical hazards i.e. paint etc.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Licenses and Certificates: Driver’s license issued from the state the person lives in.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Excellent knowledge of the geography and street locations in the community. Ability to walk for long periods of time under adverse conditions; ability to organize and complete a large number of work orders in an efficient and effective manner; ability to establish and to maintain an effective work relationship with supervisors, team co-workers, city employees, and utility customers; ability to deal with periodic negative public contact; ability to lift and move manhole covers in order to access meter reads. Skill and accuracy in recording data.

Special Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and registration.
  • Drug/Alcohol testing required per Federal DOT Regulations for employees working with Gas meters
  • Drug/Alcohol testing required per Non-Regulatory requirements for employees working with Water, Electric, meters
