Middle Grades Math Interventionist

Purpose
: The primary responsibility of the Middle Grades Math Interventionist is to teach 7th and 8th grade remedial math. These courses will not take the place of 7th and/or 8th grade math. The courses taught by the MG Math Interventionist will fill in the gaps and foundational skills the students need to be successful. The classes would be a semester-long class focused on students that are not proficient on the 6th or 7th grade EOG. The MG Math Interventionist will teach one section of the 7th grade remedial math and one section of the 8th grade remedial math each semester. Note: Depending on what students need, the MG Math Interventionist may teach additional sections of the 7th or 8th grade remedial math, but that cannot be determined until EOG results have been obtained.


Responsibilities
:


  • Support 7th and 8th grade students in small, pullout groups to focus on specific math interventions. These groups would be flexible and ever changing to support the students’ needs.
  • Constant communication will be maintained between the teachers and the MG Math Interventionist in order to ensure that the correct students are identified for math interventions.
  • Will have one section each semester to pull small groups of 7th grade students for math interventions and one section each semester to pull 8th grade students for math interventions.
  • Will work with the Camden Middle School MTSS team to help and coordination the Camden Middle School MTSS Program.
  • Will help to develop schedules and groups for the School-Wide Intervention Time (Cub Win).


Knowledge and Abilities
:


  • The ability to skillfully offer constructive feedback, facilitate change, and work effectively with adult learners
  • Thorough knowledge of the curricular area requirements and curriculum as conveyed by NCDPI
  • Thorough knowledge of school district board policies and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of legislative requirements pertaining to the particular subject area
  • Demonstrated ability to perform evaluations of teachers and their subject areas and to provide recommendations for improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to provide support, direction and assistance to assigned staff relative to job performance, student/staff relations, problem resolution and professional growth
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain supportive and positive working relationships with school principals, teachers, subject area coaches and support personnel
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate the development and implementation of the curriculum guide that contains the core curriculum benchmarks, resources, instructional strategies and activities, timelines, articulation maps, and common assessments that are aligned with the state requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work with other facilitators in the related field to ensure proper alignment horizontally and vertically in all tested areas
  • Considerable knowledge of the current literature, trends, methods and developments in the particular curricular area
  • Thorough knowledge of the NC Standard Course of Study and its application to the particular curriculum
  • Considerable knowledge of providing active leadership and support for effective instructional strategies, techniques, and methods grounded in research and focused on improved achievement for all students
  • Considerable knowledge of best practices, adaptive learning, and other processes associated with providing quality professional staff development activities and programs in accordance with staff and student needs and school/district needs and objectives


Training and Experience
:


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in the area of mathematics, curriculum development, or related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a classroom teacher.


Licensure
:


Must possess or be eligible to obtain licensure in North Carolina.
