Walker Residential is currently looking for a Milieu Specialist on a full time basis for their Needham campus. Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Milieu Specialist will act as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team for children with emotional and behavioral challenges. S/he will focus on social, recreational, and behavioral needs of children and ensure that the physical and emotional needs of children are being met on a daily basis. Successful candidates must be committed to child centered, family focused culturally competent care and strength based treatment; be a team leader and communicate effectively with teammates. Must have valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to transport children into the community.
Essential Functions:
- Oversee the planning and implementation of social and recreational activities for children; including summer and vacation programming.
- Work as a part of a multidisciplinary team to further the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of children.
- Communicate outcomes of appointments and manage follow up needed in regards to children’s care.
- Actively participate in supervision and professional development opportunities offered at Walker.
- Provide a therapeutic milieu environment for children, maintaining a safe and healthy environment; and meeting the physical needs of children. Ensure units meet physical standards of licensing at all times.
- Implement treatment protocol established in children’s treatment plans and individual support plans.
- Properly attend to administrative functions of a childcare worker including attending required meetings; completing written reports; writing tasks and presenting at treatment updates.
- Provide supervision of children.
- Apply Walker’s model of childcare, including therapeutic crisis intervention methods, and physical restraint.
- Follow and implement all Walker policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED; Ability to obtain MAP certification within first three (3) months of employment; Six (6) months prior experience working with children who have emotional and behavioral challenges.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $22.25 per hour
