Description
The selected individual will report to the Museum’s Director of Education and team teach with another museum educator. The Hofstra University Museum of Art seeks a dynamic, experienced, part-time education professional (up to 15 hours per week, April – June) with a passion for teaching and learning, working in a non-traditional teaching environment, and a dedication to advancing skills and knowledge for young people in grades 5, 7, and 9. The after-school program takes place in the Museum galleries and the Museum Cultural Arts Lab with occasional visits to other areas of the University. Afternoon hours required – the program runs Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:30-5:30pm. Program planning hours are flexible.

- Work with the Museum’s education staff in developing and implementing the grant-funded after-school program, 21st Century Learning Centers. This innovative program connects works of art to the lives of middle and high school students providing engaging and inspiring experiences in the arts.
- Work to teach across disciplines, using creative techniques and working as a team member.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- A dynamic teacher with a minimum of 3 years active and appropriate teaching experience.
- Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Creative and flexible thinker.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Candidates who have evidence of non-traditional, creative and inquiry-based approaches to teaching and/or experience as a teaching artist.
- Previous experience with middle and high school-aged young people.
- Digital media experience.
