Museum Outreach & Children's Programs Vista Job at AmeriCorps
The Museum Outreach & Children’s Programs VISTA will build the capacity of Homesteader Museum to educate tourists, residents ,and school-age youth on the history of the town and region by continuing to develop hands-on programming that compliments the Homesteader Museum’s exhibits. Implementing more hands-on learning opportunities will expand the museum’s accessibility in the community, especially among vulnerable populations who learn most effectively in less-traditional, non-classroom settings. The Museum VISTA will continue developing the hands-on workshop programing initiated by the previous VISTA by reviewing the feedback collected, making appropriate revisions, and developing additional similar programming that can be offered to more participants this year. Expanding hands-on programming on the museum’s topics and the history, will help combat poverty in the area by bolstering educational resources available, thus increasing educational outcomes for students in classrooms. The VISTA will continue conducting outreach among various groups in the community to increase awareness of the Homesteader’s new programs and services, especially its newest program: the traveling trunks. When applicable the VISTA will continue to work with key community partners and educators to test, refine, and implement the museum’s educational resources and programs. As a VISTA member at the Homesteader Museum, you will be one of a small but solid cohort of 8 VISTA members in the VISTA Intermediary Program managed by PEP (Powell Economic Partnership/Powell Chamber of Commerce) in Park County, WY. All 10 positions support agriculture, tourism, or mining, the Region's economic drivers and help support and stabilize the area's employers and workforce.
Member Duties : The Museum VISTA will continue developing hands-on initiated by the previous VISTA by reviewing feedback on summer workshops, making revisions, and developing additional workshops to be offered this year. The VISTA will also conduct outreach throughout the community to increase awareness of the Homesteader’s programs and services, especially its newest program: the traveling trunks. When applicable the VISTA will collaborate with community partners and educators to test, refine, and implement the museum’s educational resources and ensure program relevancy. This will be accomplished by: 1) Partnering with educators to revise current hands-on program offerings to ensure relevancy to community learning/teaching needs; 2) Expanding current offerings by creating additional hands-on programming specifically engaging school-age youth and children outside traditional classroom setting; 3) Conducting outreach to community educators regarding the museum and its programs.
