The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) is seeking an experienced individual to work as a Nurse Case Reviewer in the Office of Driver Wellness and Safety.
The Nurse Case Reviewer reviews and interprets medical documents and Medical Advisory Board (MAB) recommendations in order to make administrative decisions regarding the licensure or re-licensure of potentially at risk drivers with physical, alcohol, drug, and/or mental impairments in accordance with Maryland Motor Vehicle, Federal laws, regulation, policies, and procedure. The Nurse Case Reviewer is also charged with the duty of independently reviewing cases according to the Standard Operating Guidelines.
Responsibilities include:
- Collecting, assessing, and maintaining medical data in reference to Maryland citizen’s ability to safely operate commercial and non-commercial motor vehicles as it relates to their alcohol/drug, and medical/mental health status in accordance with federal, state laws and regulations in a case management process
- Evaluating and prioritizing cases to ensure prompt and efficient case review that results in a positive outcome for citizen and community safety
- Collecting, assessing and maintaining medical data in reference to Maryland citizens’ ability to safely operate commercial motor vehicles. This includes Exemption Programs (e.g., Vision and Limb Wavier), which includes maintaining Federal Motor Carrier Regulations and appropriate forms
- Reviewing cases also includes Request for Re-examination submitted by law enforcement agencies for individuals possessing a commercial motor vehicle license
- Collaborating with physicians of the Medical Advisory Board to review, recommend and carry out recommendations on Maryland citizens’ ability to safely operate commercial and non-commercial motor vehicles as it relates to their alcohol, drug, medical, and mental health status in accordance with federal, state laws, and regulations in a case management process
- Communicating orally and in writing with individual citizens, court officials, attorneys and health care providers

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Two (2) years nursing experience in a clinical setting.
Notes:
1. Two (2) years of additional experience as a Registered Nurse may be substituted for the education requirement.
2. Candidates may substitute equivalent U.S. Armed Forces military service experience for civilian experience cited above.
Licenses & Certifications
Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.
