OBJECTIVE SUMMARY: Works with the Occupational Therapist and assist with services provided
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- The OTA follows patient treatment plans developed by the licensed occupational therapist. Job activities include:
- Guide and aid individuals in developed therapy programs in geropsychiatric, medical-surgical, swing bed and outpatient programs.
- Review treatment plans prior to treatment.
- Review charts and record patient histories.
- Gather and prepare materials as needed for therapy activities.
- Prepare work area and equipment for patient activities.
- Encourage/guide/escort patients to/from treatment.
- Facilitate 1:1 and group treatments.
- Co-treat with OTR or other discipline in group treatment activities.
- Make minor repairs to therapeutic equipment.
- Instruct self-care skills such as dressing and undressing, grooming, toileting, showering, eating skills, home making and functional mobility for self-care skills.
- Instruct therapeutic craft activity skills.
- Teach therapeutic exercises and other therapeutic activities to patients and their families.
- Teach patients and family how to use adaptive equipment, durable medical equipment and splints/orthotics.
- Observe and verbally report progress and patient reactions to therapy.
- Complete daily and weekly written documentation of patient progress.
- Attend and participate in multidisciplinary care planning meetings.
- Attend and participate in staff meeting.
REQUIRED EDUCATION: Minimum of an Associate’s Degree from an occupational therapy assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Council on Occupational Therapy Education.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Same as above
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of clinical internships and the national certification exam.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 1-2 years in a skilled nursing therapy clinic
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS: License to practice occupational therapy in the State of Washington
SKILLS:
- Ability to apply skills and therapy techniques
- Demonstrates the maturity and capability of representing the Rehabilitation Services Department
- Able to positively work with other health care providers and the public
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Hospital inpatient and outpatient therapy environments. Potential exposure to infectious diseases. Potential need to function in medical emergencies and incidents. Outreach in Community.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lifting ability of up to 25 lbs with proper technique. Lifting and positioning of patients. Transferring and ambulation of patients that are at high risk of falling. Working with people that are frustrated or depressed due to their lack of functional ability or other issues. Ability to handle multiple task concurrently. Ability to problem solve requiring quick decision making and physical response.

Eligibility Requirements - Employees regularly scheduled at least 20 hours per week.
Employee Dependents - Your legal spouse or domestic partner, Dependent children until age 26.
