Occupational Therapist-VA Job at Childhelp
Position Summary:
Responsible for developing, organizing and conducting the occupational therapy program to facilitate rehabilitation according to the IEP, DOE Regulations or under the direction of the Director of Education. In this capacity, you will be responsible for directing resident participation and selective tasks to restore, reinforce and enhance performance; facilitate the learning of those skills and functions essentially for adaptation and productivity, diminish or correct pathology, and to promote and maintain good health.
This position does not have direct reports.
Essential Functions
- Meets the clients’ goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining occupational therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or through an IEP.
- Helps client to develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities by implementing programs involving fine motor skills, visual motor skills, visual perceptual and gross motor activities of daily living, and sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities; directing direct care and educational staff.
- Promotes maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest.
- Evaluates results of occupational therapy by observing, noting, and evaluating client’s progress; recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications.
- Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing and instructing client’s, families, and caregivers in home programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment; recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
- Documents client care services by charting in patient and departmental records.
- Maintains client confidence and protects the ACT Village by keeping information confidential.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal and certification requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Carry out other duties as assigned.
- Completes all required documentation in accordance to established standards
- Ensures that treatment plans, performs evaluations, goals and interventions are developed for each client as needed.
- Communicates effectively with other staff via shift logs, team meetings and formal and informal staffings.
- Carries out other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the program.
Requirements
Education/Experience/Knowledge/Understanding
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university that has been approved through the American Occupational Therapy Association
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience providing occupational therapy services
- Must be licensed by the State of Virginia as an Occupational Therapist and AOTCB certified
- Must possess professional liability insurance
- Must be current on all mandatory annual retraining and in-services.

Physical Demands
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- No substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work.)
- Employees may be exposed to children who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable personal behaviors, insult your physical appearance, age, sex, and race, use profanity, sexually explicit phrases, exhibit defiance, dishonesty, threats, accusations, and theft, assaultive behaviors and self-destructive behaviors.
