The Operations Assistant Supervisor is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of one or more of the following recycling or ITAD areas: material handling, shredding, asset management, shipping and receiving, and transportation.
Specific duties – this position will support the Receiving / Shipping department – leading all shipping and receiving operations.
Reporting to Operations Supervisor
Principal Accountabilities
1. Support and comply with all Safety, Health, Environment, Community, and Sustainability (SHECS) policies, procedures, and initiatives, including SimsMMway Program, to ensure a safe work environment. This includes conducting Job Cycle Checks and Safety Conversations, developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures and Safe Work Procedures, and submitting HazReps.
2. Work closely with Supervisor or Manager and SHECS’s personnel on workers’ compensation injuries/claims and associated follow-up/documentation and reasonable accommodations.
3. Provide leadership and ensure compliance with all Company policies, procedures, and initiatives.
4. Identify and assist with continuous improvement and cost control activities.
5. Support Lean Six Sigma program initiatives.
6. Help maintain positive employee relations, help encourage a team atmosphere, and help ensure all associates and contingent workers are treated fairly and equitably.
7. Assist with supervising and maintaining a well-trained workforce of SLS associates and contingent workers in assigned departments; assist with identifying and training successors for key employees.
8. Assist with communicating and attaining established production goals while maintaining highest standards of quality.
9. Create, maintain, and/or distribute required reports.
10. Help ensure availability of required tools, equipment, and supplies.
11. Assist with completing required physical inventories according to established accuracy goals.
12. Help ensure contractors, freight companies, and service providers comply with Company policies and procedures.
13. Help ensure effective use of Company systems to ensure accuracy of production process.
14. Report any accidents, incidents, safety issues, errors, or other problems immediately to appropriate management personnel.
15. Assist with tracking performance data to ensure that customer contract requirements are being achieved in accordance with the Statement of Work; assist with reporting to Client Operations and/or Sales any performance variations and corrective action plan within 24 hours of discovery.
16. Help ensure direct reports’ timecards and related supporting documentation are completed in a timely manner.
17. Help conduct and/or attend regularly scheduled Operations meetings.
18. Participate in relevant training as required.
19. Where applicable, help ensure that inbound/outbound freight is coordinated effectively.
20. Where applicable, operate mobile plant equipment and train as necessary.
21. Perform Supervisor duties from time to time in absence of Supervisor, as assigned.
22. Other duties as assigned.

Education
Minimum: High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred: Associate degree in Business, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field
Experience
Minimum: Two years’ experience in an industrial environment
Preferred:
- One year of supervisory experience
- Experience in recycling field
- Experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment
- Bilingual preferred (Spanish)
Skills:
Minimum:
- Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a broad range of individuals at multiple levels
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite
