Position Summary
The 82d Medical Group, Sheppard AFB, TX, provides healthcare services to an estimated 19.5K Government beneficiaries and has a requirement for a high-quality Outpatient Pharmacist to provide services supporting patients at the military Medical Treatment Facility.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Provides timely responses to drug information requests from patient care providers and nurses. Appropriately interacts with the ordering provider as needed.
Evaluates provider's orders for therapy appropriateness, incompatibilities, side effects and interactions of drugs and drug products.
Utilizes patient care information systems such as EHMR to obtain critical patient data elements and to document pertinent patient care issues.
Directly involved in the design, implementation, and monitoring of therapeutic drug plans to achieve definite outcomes by direct interactions with patients and providers in assigned areas.
Responsible for verification and evaluation of licensed practitioners' medication orders/prescriptions and input of written orders, when applicable. Selects, compounds, dispenses, and fills a range of drugs including special formulations, ophthalmics, narcotics, investigational drugs, etc. in outpatient areas and follows appropriate quality assurance procedures as applicable.
Ensures that drugs dispensed are completely & correctly labeled & packaged in full compliance with federal rules and regulations.
Participates in the training and in-servicing of pharmacists, pharmacy technician, and other medical center personnel as required.
Effectively instructs patients and family members in the appropriate use of medications and medical devices.
Provides timely and accurate responses to drug information inquiries from all customers.
Ensures that work of the team is carried out on tours when no supervisory pharmacist is present.
Acts as point-of-contact with Patient Care Services for resolution of time-sensitive nursing and pharmacy issues. Oversees the activities of support personnel & communicates with supervisory staff regarding issues that arise during the time period when no supervisory pharmacist is on site.
Participates in the clinic and pharmacy service quality improvement programs.
Participation in research activities must be in accordance with FDA guidelines and regulations and DoD policy.
Coordinates the receipt and distribution of all drugs in an investigational and/or clinical evaluation status and maintains appropriate records regarding their use as applicable.
Facilitate medical staff drug utilization reviews (DURs) as deemed necessary
Other duties as identified in the Performance Work Statement and/or assigned Advancia Aeronautics executive management
Education & Experience Requirements
Degree: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D.) or grandfathered Baccalaureate Pharmacy degree
Education: Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. NOTE: Prior to 2005 ACPE accredited both baccalaureate and Doctor of Pharmacy terminal degree program. Today the sole degree is Doctor of Pharmacy.
Experience: As required, to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the Service-specific credentialing instructions
Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a pharmacist
Proficient with technology, Electronic Health Records and Microsoft Office’s Suite of products; ability to type minimum 40 WPM
Must be able to speak, read, and write in English to effectively communicate
Shall have current certification American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers or American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course (Web-based classes do not meet this requirement)
Working Conditions/Working Environment/Physical Demands
Work location is at the 82nd Medical Group; travel may be required for training or to provide services per government request
Walking, sitting, kneeling, bending and periodic standing required; ability to lift approximately 10-15 pounds (i.e., books, equipment)
Work in the occupation involves making repetitive motions more than 1/3 of the time.
