TITLE: Assistant Shift Supervisor (Social Services)
REPORTS TO: Shift Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the Assistant Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the overall operation of the shift. This person will ensure that program policies and procedures are adhered to by the Youth Care Advocate staff. The Assistant Shift Supervisor will assist with the direct supervision and development of Youth Care Advocate staff, who will provide a healthy, safe, secure, and clean environment, where every youth is afforded the respect and dignity needed to enhance his self-worth. The Shift Supervisor will reflect and display the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure that staff maintain program security and adhere to YMCA, DYS and OCCS policies, while servicing the clients as outlined in the Operations Manual
- Ensure that the program schedule and planned activities are consistently implemented on a daily basis by both youth and staff
- Submit to the Shift Supervisor when directed, two weeks in advance, a written plan of activities for the clients for holidays
- Develop a working knowledge of the Department of Youth Services, courts and police procedures
- Work cooperatively with varied professional human service agencies, parents and others
- Ensure proper documentation of all intakes, logs, records and reports
- Attend all scheduled shift meetings, full staff meetings and trainings, as directed
- Provide support to any shift in a crisis situation, including physical restraint of clients, remaining at the program for as long as necessary until the situation is resolved
- Report any suspected child abuse to the Director
- Be responsible for the assigned shift, ensuring proper staff coverage
- Be flexible with work schedule, understanding that the need for staff coverage may require continual adjustments
- Ensure the dress code policy is followed by all staff
- Deal with potential crisis situations by intervening and counseling the clients/staff
- Administer and document medication to the clients
SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL
- Supervise Youth Care Advocates as assigned by the Assistant Director
- Ensure that clients' advocate reports are completed by the Youth Care Advocates assigned
- Assist in screening, training, evaluation and supervising the performance of the Youth Care Advocates
FACILITY/HOUSEKEEPING RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure upkeep and maintenance of the program
- Ensure all equipment is safe, secure, clean and in up-to-date condition and meets all regulatory standards; report in writing to the Shift Supervisor any equipment that is in need of repair
INTERDIVISIONAL/COMMUNITY/VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships and provide leadership when working with volunteers and interns
- Actively participate in the YMCA's Strong Kids' and United Way Campaigns by completing all required tasks
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma plus additional course work or related experience with adolescents
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Capable of consistently and successfully dealing with clients with severe, emotional and behavioral problems
- Must have visual and auditory acuity in order to maintain security of the program
