Sika is looking for a Packaging and Automation Engineer in their Process Technology group. The Process Technology team is a multidisciplinary group of motivated and talented engineers responsible for manufacturing engineering projects, incl. packaging and automation, and process innovations throughout the US. In this role, you will lead packaging and automation projects for all Target Markets at Sika. What You’ll Do
- Develop engineering solutions, designs, project plans and budgets for packaging and production automation projects for a wide variety of products: Liquids such as floor coatings in pails and cans; pastes such as adhesives in cartridges, unipacs and drums; and dry blends such as mortars and grouts in bags.
- Support the conceptualization, design, and validation of new and innovative packaging solutions in collaboration with Corp. Operations Technology, Procurement, R&D, and production engineering.
- Develop Request for Proposal documents for design and installation of process and packaging equipment.
- Specify and/or purchase major process and packaging equipment. Administer and control packaging line design, and installations.
- Assess and review existing packaging lines’ design and operations. Identify and implement cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials and processes through automation, insourcing and improved equipment efficiency.
- Direct internal and external resources to produce deliverables on schedule and within budget while monitoring and reporting on project progress.
- Makes sure all system risk assessments are completed according to the industrial standards. Develop and execute a test plan to validate compliance with requirements.
- Develop operational procedures as well as training for production personnel.
- Provide engineering support to the Manufacturing and Maintenance groups on operational, troubleshooting, and maintenance issues.
- Travel to provide onsite support for project reviews, commissioning, qualifications, and line trials.
- Evaluate new processes and automation that provide a competitive advantage to Sika’s operation.
Skills You Need
- Education: BS degree in Engineering (Packaging, Automation preferred) or educated to Cert / Diploma in Instrumentation or Mechatronics.
- 3-5 years of relevant process experience in a manufacturing environment (chemical, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, Automotive). SAP knowledge is a benefit.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and packaging design validation standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.).
- Experience in project management. Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Problem solving, hands-on experience and decision-making skills are necessary. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with Production teams and departments such as R&D, Procurement, Marketing as well as suppliers towards a common goal.
- Familiar with AutoCAD, MS Visio, Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC.
