DEPARTMENT: Park, Recreation and Facilities
CLASS SUMMARY:
The fourth level of the Maintenance Series is responsible for supervising, scheduling, coordinating and overseeing maintenance and construction operations staff. Responsibilities may include: planning and supervising maintenance projects and daily work assignments by scheduling workers, arranging materials and equipment; recording and reviewing daily work schedules, employee time sheets and material tickets; training employees; evaluating employee performance; overseeing field operations and ensuring compliance with State and City standards and regulations; and responding to inquiries and emergencies.
TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
1.Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work schedules.
2. Operates, evaluates and inspects equipment, and/or other related items to ensure compliance with standards; oversees quality control of in-progress and/or completed work.
3. Participates in construction and routine maintenance activities in assigned area.
4. Orders and maintains inventory of materials and supplies.
5. Responds to questions, concerns, and/or requests for service related to assigned area of responsibility.
6. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and 5 years of experience in assigned area; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):
Licensing Requirements:
- Class A Commercial Driver's License; with tank vehicle, and air brake endorsements;
- Parks - Pesticide, Herbicide, and Mosquito License or obtain within 2 years of hire.
Knowledge of:
- Supervisory principles;
- Scheduling principles;
- Mechanical principals;
- Principles, procedures and methods related to area of assignment;
- Occupational hazards and related safety precautions;
- Variety of hand and power tools;
- Applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, codes, and regulations;
- Safety procedures;
- Inventory management.
Skill in:
- Monitoring and evaluating staff;
- Managing projects within assigned parameters;
- Using applicable tools and equipment related to area of assignment;
- Purchasing materials, equipment, and supplies;
- Interpreting and applying policies, procedures, codes, laws, and regulations;
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, and extreme temperatures.
HOURS OF WORK:
Full Time Position. Hours are typically Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Hours may vary due to departmental needs.
