Overview

As a Tour Guide/Concierge, you'll be responsible for providing an engaging and informative tour of our house museum and the local area, driving a 14-passenger tour vehicle, and recommending places and things to do in Athens, Georgia.

Responsibilities

• Greet and welcome customers to the welcome center and provide information about the itinerary for each tour.
• Plan itineraries in accordance with weather forecasts and the length of each tour.
• Gather and maintain the requisite equipment for each tour.
• Familiarize yourself with the layout and history of the region and house museum in which you will be working.
• Memorize scripted tours and deliver them in an engaging and informative manner.
• Drive a 14-passenger tour vehicle safely while delivering scripted tours.
• Familiarize customers with each place or establishment.
• Providing information and assistance to visitors on attractions, events, and services in Athens and the surrounding area.
• Maintaining a clean and organized welcome center, including restocking brochures and keeping displays tidy.
• Answering phone calls and responding to email inquiries.
• Operating a cash register and handling cash and credit card transactions for ticket sales, gift shop purchases, and tour bookings.
• Collaborating with other staff members to develop and execute marketing and promotional activities for the welcome center and its programs.
• Maintaining accurate records of visitor information, sales transactions, and tour bookings.
• Adhering to all safety and security procedures for the welcome center and its operations.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Director.

Job Requirements

• A valid Georgia Driver’s License is required. Applicants must satisfactorily pass a 3-year Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) screening.
• Goal-oriented, positive, upbeat, and friendly with the ability to maintain composure under pressure and resolve visitor concerns.
• Excellent verbal and public speaking skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize.
• Ability to transport customers safely in a 14-passenger van (CDL not required).
• Basic computer skills, including the ability to use the Internet, desktop computer, printer, mobile apps, an Apple iPad, and point of sale.
• Ability to work independently with minimum direction and periodic supervision.
• Ability to walk for long periods of time, lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion, and work in an outdoor environment for long periods of time.
• Ability to create a welcoming and inclusive environment by being respectful and courteous to everyone, valuing diversity, and making sure that visitors with disabilities, language barriers, or other special needs are accommodated.
• Knowledge of Athens culture and history, as well as a familiarity of current attractions and things to do, are a plus!

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $15.00 per hour
