SUMMARY
Coordinates medical and financial clearance across the continuum of care for Diagnostic Imaging patients being referred for diagnostic procedures only (DPO).

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES Patient Access /Registration
1. Consistently and accurately utilizes medical acceptance criteria to screen and schedule appointments for new patients in a way to ensure optimal efficiency in clinic operations.
2. Ensures patient, family and visitor safety at all times by monitoring his/her environment.
3. Applies knowledge of Age Specific Criteria in carrying out work duties and tasks.
4. Demonstrates ability to work effectively in all assigned areas.
5. Travel to off-site regional patient care facilities (e.g., Bellaire, CABI, T MC, West Houston).
6. Demonstrates flexibility to the demands of patient care, including but not limited to: coming in early, staying late, alternative shift cover age, emergency "ride-out team" and rotational coverage as needed.
7. Adheres to HIPAA requirements to protect patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
8. Assures all patient information is complete and accurate
9. Clearly writes required information on all necessary forms
10. Properly identifies and screens patients who are at "fall risk".
11. Enters data into computer system that is accurate and free from errors.
12. Confirms patients using approved patient identifiers, employing "best practices" of the section to ensure patient demographic accuracy
13. Performs cashier duties processing patient payments and ensuring daily closure and balance of electronic cash register.
14. Other assigned duties.

Critical Thinking and Strategic Alignment
1. Collects and completes accurate demographic and financial data du ring intake process to ensure appropriate financial screening of new patients and verifies data during new patient registration to ensure compliance with required forms and consents.
2. Applies knowledge of area specific processes and scheduling capacity to manage patient flow, minimize patient appointment delays and positively impact daily operations for patient on-time starts.
3. Coaches and mentors others relating to specific aspects of job
4. Suggests ways to improve efficiency in the workplace
5. Attends, contributes, and participates in regularly scheduled depart mental meetings
6. Documents incidents, variances, unusual circumstances, or patient concerns (PSN) and escalates/notifies the appropriate personnel within twenty four hours
7. In a self-directed and timely manner, completes all mandatory in-services and continuing education requirements for the institution, division, section including but not limited to: Orientation to new equipment, safety preparedness, Employees Education event.
8. Completes shift reports and follows up with supervisors/peers
9. Actively participates in quality and performance improvement activities/projects to improve workflow and the overall patient experiences (i.e., Press Ganey, patient on time starts, tracer rounds, patient rounding, etc ).
10. During system failure, performs section down0time procedures an d immediately reports to supervisor for reassignment of duties.
11. Maximizes productivity and operational effectiveness by working with entire multi-disciplinary care team to resolve associated account and registration questions.
Communication and Documentation/Technical Acumen 1. Uses excellent oral communication and listening skills to communicate with patient, referral source, MDACC physician and MDACC clinical staff regarding obstacles to access.
2. Employs appropriate and varied methods of communication and escalation.
3. Responds to voicemail and online messages within one business day and answer phone calls in a timely manner (within 3 rings)
4. Completely and accurately documents communications with, patients, and the treatment team.
5. Error rates are minimized to benchmarked levels
6. Maintains productivity standards as defined in the section
7. Responsible for independent and proficient operation of all assigned equipment including quality assurance activities
8. Assures all necessary patient documentation is complete and accurate, clearly writing down required information on all forms.
9. Assist with equipment maintenance logs and mandatory monthly rounds (e.g., JC tracer rounds, weekly cleaning, patient rounding, etc.).
9. Other duties as assigned.

Required education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Required experience: Three years experience in healthcare, insurance or related field. With preferred degree, one year of required experience.

Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
