Salary Range: $18.1600 - $27.9000 /hour
Under the direction of a licensed nurse, assists in direct patient care by providing for ADL, comfort, nutrition and hygiene needs for the adult and geriatric orthopedic patient. Takes and records clinical measurements, collects specimens, provides transportation and maintains equipment and supplies. Participates in maintaining a safe patient care environment.
Clinical Care: Ensure patient care is delivered and the unit is maintained in accordance with professional regulatory standards. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the adult and geriatric patient population as outlined in the job description and competencies. Demonstrates an understanding of proper patient positioning following patients’ specific surgery. Demonstrates understanding and performs the following patient care tasks: gait training, transfer and ADL training under the direct supervision and direction of a Physical or Occupational Therapist. Assists the registered nurse in placing patients in rooms, performing vital sign measurements, performs Accu-Check blood glucose test as required (must have Limited Phlebotomy license or RN license for this procedure) and obtaining and properly labeling laboratory samples. Understands and follows identified precautions in weight bearing with ambulation. Demonstrates knowledge in use of equipment and devices pertinent to treatment, procedures and practices as instructed and under direct supervision of the registered nurse, Physical Therapist or an Occupational Therapist. Understands and follows identified precautions for patients after orthopedic surgery, i.e. spine, joint or fracture (as appropriate). May assist in preparing charts, file patient information, and break down cancelled, discharged or rescheduled patient files (as appropriate). Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a Nursing Assistant program, CNA required completion of first semester of RN program, or equivalency to be determined by Department Director and VP Patient Care Services.
- Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, organizational ability, knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control, ability to follow instructions, knowledge of section specific test information and instrumentation may be required.
- Current certification as a nursing assistant/CNA from the state of California or completion of first semester of RN program or equivalency. Current BLS certification is required. Must obtain Limited Phlebotomy certification within one year of hire as a PCA (or RN license).
