The York County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is a charitable organization dedicated to finding loving and permanent homes for stray and displaced animals, controls the pet population growth rates, investigates and prosecutes animal cruelty offenders, and educates the public about animal wellness and safety.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and follow-up of charitable gifts and sponsorships from already established and prospective donors and businesses with the goal of identifying and securing $300 thousand in new, recurring revenue within the first 18-months of being hired.
  • Build, maintain, and grow a portfolio of donors and prospects from underdeveloped sources that include current and prospective donors, adopters, and community supporters.
  • Coordinate, support, and manage volunteer solicitation committees in the support of special events and capital campaign activities.
  • Support the Executive Director in designing and executing a capital campaign solicitation strategy.
  • Assure prompt gift acceptance, deposit, acknowledgement, and recognition of major gifts.
  • Log all relationship information in Bloomerang, the York County SPCA’s donor database.
  • Develop tailored prospect and donor-specific strategies and tactics to advance the philanthropic relationship and giving potential.
  • Identify and secure alternative sources of funding through private and public grant writing and submission opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Five or more years of experience in fundraising, grant writing, sales, marketing, and/or communications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written communication, and the ability to work with a variety of personalities and demographics among donors, volunteers, trustees, and employees.
  • Must be very organized, analytical, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Must be knowledgeable and passionate about the York County SPCA’s mission and be capable of articulating verbally and in writing the organization’s mission, strategic priorities, and future goals.
  • Strong computer skills and demonstrated proficiency in donor databases, plus experience with Microsoft products such as Excel spreadsheets.
  • Familiar with wealth screening tools and new donor cultivation techniques.

Preferred:

  • A track record of securing major gifts from identification through cultivation and solicitation.
  • A bachelor’s degree in related fields such as communications, sales, or business.
  • Obtained a Certified Fund-Raising Executive credential.

  • Effective written and verbal communication with customers, volunteers, and staff.
  • Demonstrated track record of multitasking with positive results.
  • Has excellent organization skills and is detail-oriented; adapts to changes in the workplace.
  • Works efficiently without supervision and uses talents to creatively further the mission of the York County SPCA.
  • Has strong oral and written communication skills and a thorough understanding of the York County SPCA’s programs and services.
  • Has demonstrated success in creating and promoting a diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace environment.
  • Upholds the mission of York County SPCA throughout their work.

Working Conditions and Expectation:

  • The position typically works Monday through Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm. This position will require weekend and evening work. Flexibility and willingness to adjust normal working hours to accommodate the needs of the job is necessary. The York County SPCA will provide a flexible work schedule to compensate for evening and weekend work to ensure a healthy work/life balance.
  • Standard office environment, with exposure to environmental conditions that include working near and potentially caring for animals. A variety of animals visit the office nearly every day.
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Willingness and ability to travel in a personal vehicle around the York County area.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
