The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Chittenango is currently seeking a Phlebotomist to join our team!

Position Overview: Phlebotomists are responsible for drawing blood & collecting a variety of specimen samples from our residents. You will be responsible for labeling and bringing all samples to the appropriate laboratory (usually a local hospital or nearby facility).

Phlebotomist Responsibilities Include:

• Collecting blood samples from residents.
• Labeling specimen vials correctly with resident names, dates, etc.
• Identifying residents using proper protocol, especially when working on units.
• Deciphering the best method for drawing blood for each resident.
• Transporting all specimen samples to a nearby laboratory.
• Centrifuging blood samples (if available and compliant with state laws).
• Working with a large number of residents varying in age and health status while being friendly, courteous and sympathetic.
• Keeping your phlebotomy cart and/or station well-organized at all times.
• Practicing infection control standards at all times; keeping all equipment sanitary.
• Other duties as assigned by Director.

Paramedic Qualifications/Skills:

• Professional certification in phlebotomy from a recognized program.
• Valid NYS Driver’s license.
• Ability to successfully draw blood from residents with minimal or no complications.
• Empathy and interpersonal skills when working with residents.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Committed to ensuring resident confidentiality.
• Excellent motor skills and ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
• Data entry and computer skills.
