This full time opportunity offers a dream schedule: NO nights, NO call, and three or four days off per week!!

We seek an experienced PA for our Neurosurgery department, one who is competent and confident to work autonomously as well as on, and with, a close-knit team; the Neurosurgeons are always available for questions or concerns.

To provide direct support to the Neurosurgery service line, including providing professional medical services to inpatient and emergency room neurosurgery consults, floor management of post-operative neurosurgery patients to include admissions and discharges, rounding on patients and first assisting in the OR if desired.

The PA will work directly with a team of Neurosurgeons with cases including cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine surgery, biopsy and excision of brain masses, evacuation of subarachnoid hemorrhages, placement of baclofen pumps, placement of VP shunts, etc.

Principle Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Surgical first assist in Neurosurgery cases
  • Direct care, counseling, and teaching to designated patients and their families in an inpatient setting.
  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops plans of care and follow-up based on outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to policies and procedures.
  • Consistently provides quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
  • Performs minor post-operative and bedside procedures to include removal of drains, removal of VP shunts, recalibration of VP Shunts and changing post-operative dressings
  • Coordinates with rehabilitation services, case managers, nursing and other medical providers for post-operative and consult patients
  • Practices cost effective medicine in efficient manner, maximizing available resources.
  • Discusses patient data with other physicians and professionals in a multidisciplinary setting

Non-Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates professional collaborative and consultative relationships with other providers.
  • Follows designated prescriptive practices and monitoring requirements with the designated supervising physician and administrative report.
  • Participates in departmental and organizational committees and programs and attends all required meetings, in-services, and professional trainings.
  • Remains actively involved in continuing education with a commitment to self and departmental growth.
  • Adheres to established safety policies, procedures, and precautions; identifies potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and takes measures to rectify the situation.
  • Demonstrates understanding of procedures, policies, and documentation required to ensure compliance with hospital standards of care.

Educational Requirements:

  • Graduate of approved PA Program, Master’s Degree preferred

Work Experience Requirements:

  • Prior neurosurgical or neuro- critical care preferred

Interpersonal Skills Requirements:

  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, visitors, co-workers, physicians, and other employees.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with medical and patients
  • Excellent customer service skills required.
  • Must possess sound judgment and ability to work in emergency conditions. Professional Licensure and Certification Requirements:
  • Massachusetts PA licensure
  • Certification from the National Certification for Physician Assistants (PA-C)
  • MCSR Licensure
  • DEA Licensure
  • BLS required
  • Fulfills other credentialing requirements under the purview of Medical Staff Services

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $110,757.00 - $153,807.00 per year
