Basic Purpose and Function:

This skilled manufacturing position is responsible for providing maritime pipefitting skills for repairs to ships and boats in the U.S. Navy, U.S Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command (MSC), and commercial vessels. They must be able to complete and execute the assigned work tasks following regulatory specifications assigned to the vessel.


Skills & Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This position will require accessing the ship with the capability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Applicant must be able to:

  • Pass vertical and horizontal brazing tests for the following material:
  • Copper Nickel (CuNI) to bronze (insert ring)
  • Steel to CuNI
  • Copper to Copper
  • Work at all height levels (high and low).
  • Work in confined and enclosed spaces.
  • Work in inclement weather conditions.
  • Work non-standard work hours, as required.

Education and Experience:

  • Applicants with 3+ years of pipefitting experience preferred.
  • Candidates are required to have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Candidate must be able to read pipe spool schematics, work at heights, and in confined spaces.
  • Lay out and measure utilizing both the Imperial (English) and metric system.
  • Candidates must be able to read blueprints, tape measurers, pressure gauges, levels, and squares.
  • Must possess basic math skills.
  • Must possess torch and grinding skills.
  • Must be U.S. Citizen.
  • Must obtain and/or maintain a passport for travel.
  • Candidates must be able to pass a qualification test prior to being considered for hire.
  • Should have a working knowledge of the Naval Sea Systems (NAVSEA) Standard Items.
  • Working knowledge of local NAVSEA Standard Items, specifically Southeast Regional Maintenance Center (SERMC) & Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center (FDRMC) Naples and FDRMC Bahrain are a plus.

Major Responsibility (Functions/Duties):

  • Must be able to manage small teams within your discipline and/or subcontractors.
  • Must understand and follow Lock Out / Tag Out procedures.
  • Must understand and follow Work Authorization (WAF) process.
  • Must understand and follow all Hot Work Procedures.
  • Assembles and secures pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, and threading joints.
  • Attaches pipes to walls, structures, and fixtures, using brackets, clamps, or welding equipment.
  • Cuts and bores holes in structures, such as bulkheads, decks, prior to pipe installation, using hand and power tools/radius torch.
  • Cuts and threads pipes to specifications.
  • Inspects, examines, and tests installed systems and pipelines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
  • Lays out full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment, following blueprints.
  • Measures and marks pipes for cutting and threading.
  • Modifies, cleans, and maintains pipe systems, units, fittings, and related machines and equipment, following specifications and using hand and power tools.
  • Familiarity with bending pipes using hand benders and similar devices to manipulate pipe.
  • Plans pipe system layout, installation, or repairs according to specifications.
  • Selects pipe sizes and types and related materials, such as supports, hangers.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
